Job TitleFirst Year Information Literacy Librarian (Assistant) Agency Texas A&M University Department Libraries Proposed Minimum Salary$5,241.67 monthly Job LocationCollege Station, Texas Job TypeStaff Job Description A Glimpse of the Job The Texas A&M University Libraries are seeking an Assistant Librarian for First‑Year Learning and Information Literacy to support the development of instructional programs that strengthen student success during the academic transition into university life. This position advances first‑year learning by designing and delivering course‑integrated information literacy instruction, partnering with faculty on assignment redesign, and creating workshops and online learning experiences tailored to incoming students. The Assistant Librarian serves as a first‑year specialist, guiding new students in building foundational research and critical thinking skills. Candidates who have experience working with high school or college‑aged learners will find their strengths especially valuable in this role. Working within the Office of Information Literacy, the Librarian collaborates closely with colleagues to develop bridge programming and contribute to assessment efforts that enhance the Libraries’ educational mission. The ideal candidate thrives in a collaborative environment where creative thinking, sharing ideas, and incorporating feedback are central to success. This role is well‑suited for early‑career librarians who are eager to grow as educators and librarians and to contribute meaningfully to the University Libraries’ commitment to empowering students from their very first semester. This is an on-campus opportunity. The selected candidate will be required to work on-site at our College Station campus. Salary: $62,900/annually with a $3,000 allowance for professional development. Opportunities to Contribute Learning & Curricular Support - Participates in the development of library programs focused on enhancing student success through information literacy and critical thinking through first year programming. Provides teaching services to library instruction programs, including course-integrated literacy instruction, assignment redesign, assessment, and online education. Participates in assessment programming, measuring instructional outcomes, and promoting first year research readiness programming. Participates in the design of workshops and lessons for incoming new students. Participates in the design of materials, including lessons, rubrics, modules, and learning objects for information literacy curriculum. Aids in implementing Library policies and procedures related to teaching, learning, and student engagement. Participates in special projects related to curricular integration of library materials, programs, and services. External Collaborations & Partnerships - Contact point for communication about information literacy curricular support for bridge and first year programs. Participates in reference and instructional consultations for students and faculty. Participates in information literacy curriculum consultations with faculty. May work with campus partners such to present workshops focused on foundational information literacy skills for first year students. Library Collaborations & Partnerships - Participates in departmental and interdepartmental meetings and activities as a first-year librarian in the Office of Information Literacy. Collaborates with other Office of Information Literacy Librarians and the Experiential Learning and Engagement unit to further the educational mission of the Libraries. Collaborates with colleagues on the design, delivery, assessment, and promotion of library programs that support information literacy, learning theory, and student success. Aids in the improvement of the Libraries’ instruction program, focusing on foundational information literacy skills for first year students. Contributions to the Profession - Participates in scholarly activities and professional services for professional development and to incorporate new ideas and technologies into library services and programs. Serves on campus and library committees and engages with campus units to advocate for Library presence in campus and first year student success initiatives. Qualifications Required Education and Experience: Master’s degree in Library Science. No prior experience is required. A Well-Qualified Candidate Will Also Possess: Master’s degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited program. Experience with or coursework in information literacy instruction, lesson planning, curriculum design, creating learning outcomes and learning assessment, and/or working with faculty on assignment design. Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others. Knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet, and database applications (Google suite, Microsoft). Ability to work in an environment with shifting priorities. Ability to take initiative. Ability to exercise independent judgment. Conflict resolution skills.
