Job Summary: West Texas A&M University (WTAMU), a Member of the Texas A&M University System, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor in the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in the Educational Leadership program. This is a full-time, 11-month appointment beginning September 1, 2026, with a competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership degree program at WTAMU is a fully online degree program emphasizing leadership in rural education at primary, secondary, post-secondary, and professional levels. The program operates on a cohort model, admitting one student cohort each calendar year. Students may select to pursue one of three pathways of study in the program that will advance their personal and professional goals. The pathways of study include EC-12 Educational Leadership in which the student may earn the Texas Superintendent Certificate, Higher Education Leadership, and Educational Business and Finance Leadership. The curriculum for each pathway requires the completion of 60 semester credit hours (SCHs) of coursework, inclusive of 48 SCHs of content-related coursework and 12 SCHs dedicated to writing and research. Options for specialized, advanced credentials and certificates are offered for those who elect to pursue them. A scholarly delivery requirement replaces a traditional dissertation. The scholarly delivery is comprised of a qualifying examination and the production of one written scholarly deliverable that is a publishable empirical research study in the field of educational leadership or a related field. The scholarly deliverable is the outcome of the doctoral student’s empirical research conducted under the direction of a WTAMU doctoral scholarly delivery committee. Work Performed: Teach doctoral-level courses in a fully online Ed.D. program Mentor and advise doctoral students, including supervision of empirical research Participate in the review of student progress including the qualifying examination Maintain an active research agenda with evidence of ongoing scholarly productivity Contribute to doctoral program development, assessment, and continuous improvement Participate in shared governance and program administration consistent with rank Engage in developing and implementing service opportunities consistent with the mission of the program, department, and college Weekly on-campus (Canyon and/or Amarillo, Texas) office hours and university-level engagement are required Necessary Qualifications: Terminal degree (Ed.D. or Ph.D.) in Educational Leadership or a closely related field Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience in EC–12 or higher education leadership positions or related leadership contexts Demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching, research, and service Evidence of an active research agenda and scholarly productivity appropriate to rank Demonstrated strong work ethic and commitment to doctoral education Proven ability to effectively mentor doctoral students, particularly in empirical research Demonstrated strong instructional effectiveness in fully online learning environments Preferred Qualifications: Previous instructional effectiveness in doctoral level content courses Previous service as Chair of scholarly delivery committees (e.g., dissertation or doctoral research committees) Experience working in rural educational contexts Experience or expertise in teaching the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence as it relates to research design, analysis, and scholarly writing Experience providing effective administrative leadership within a doctoral program Applicant Instructions: We require the following: Letter of interest or cover letter Curriculum Vitae Portfolio of creative work (where applicable) Personal statement to include philosophy and plans for research, teaching and service, as applicable Samples of unpublished works or works in progress (where applicable) Unofficial Transcripts (Official transcripts are expected to be submitted promptly by the successful candidate) Three professional references Please attach all documents in the attachment box at the bottom of the “My Experience” page before continuing through the application.
