POSITION SUMMARY
The Activities Director is responsible for the development, implementation, and supervision of the full scope of recreation services in the skilled nursing services.
POSITION RELATIONSHIP
Collaborates with all levels of unit nursing personnel and administrative and financial staff, physicians, consultants, and providing education to the facility.
QUALIFICATIONS
1. PROFESSIONAL
a. Ability to communicate, keep order and enforce safety rules with small and large groups
b. Ability to work well with those who have physical or mental limitations
c. High school diploma; degree in hotel management or relevant field will be a plus
2. PERSONAL
a. Must have strong communication skills, both oral and written
b. Must have knowledge and awareness of the care needs of the elderly and / or chronically ill.
c. Must have basic computer skills.
3. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
a. Assist in evaluating each resident, within 7 days of admission, according to his / her back- ground, interests, abilities, physical limitations and needs, in order to develop and plan a meaningful program to improve and enhance each resident's quality of life, and to formulate a written assessment.
b. Develops and maintains records which indicate the resident's attendance and participation in the program with reference to the resident's response to the program. Completes all written records, chart documentation.
c. Maintains a current list, from nursing services, of residents who are not physically able to participate in activities, and current records of the type and frequency of activities provided and the names of residents participating in each activity.
d. Maintains a system for visiting residents who are unable or unwilling to participate in group activities, to determine their recreational needs and effective ways to meet their needs.
e. Demonstrates a basic knowledge of the nature and etiology of the disabilities and illnesses of the residents, and its psychological, physiological and sociological impact and effect on the ability of the residents to engage in activities.
f. Assist in developing and posts conspicuously, in large and visible print, a monthly activities calendar that makes substitutions when necessary and publicizes the activities program among residents / families, visitors and staff. Assures that activities posted on the calendar are coordinated with other relevant services.
g. Maintains at least quarterly progress notes (more frequently as needed), a quarterly review and annual review of progress towards goals specific to the resident's activity plan.
h. Assist and coordinates, and facilitates the monthly resident council meeting, to provide a forum for advocacy, education, and group participation in activities and unit programming. Ensures that issues identified in council meetings are forwarded to appropriate departments and monitors them to obtain timely resolution.
i. Monitors the budget on a monthly basis and works with Administrator to address budget variances
j. Keeps abreast of Federal, State, and local requirements and guidelines regarding recreation programming. k. Perform other duties as requested.
