POSITION CONCEPT:

The Maintenance Specialist is responsible for the reliability, maintenance strategy, troubleshooting, and continuous improvement of assigned plant systems and equipment at Polk Power Station. This position serves as the technical lead for designated equipment and provides support to Operations, Maintenance, Engineering, and Maintenance Planning to ensure safe, reliable, and cost-effective plant operation.

The Maintenance Specialist functions as the equipment owner for assigned systems and is responsible for identifying and resolving equipment issues, developing maintenance strategies, supporting outage execution, and leading projects that improve equipment reliability and plant performance.

This position may be assigned responsibility for mechanical, electrical, instrumentation and controls, or other power generation systems depending on the successful candidate's experience and expertise.

The successful candidate must be self-driven, capable of working independently, focused on station reliability, and able to effectively coordinate efforts between operations, maintenance personnel, contractors, vendors, and technical specialists.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Within the limits of authorized objectives, policies, procedures, plans, schedules and budgets, this position has the responsibility and commensurate authority to:

  • Serve as the technical owner for assigned plant equipment and systems, providing daily support to Operations and Maintenance while ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient operation.
  • Troubleshoot equipment failures and reliability issues, perform root-cause analyses, utilize condition-monitoring data, and implement corrective actions to improve reliability, availability, and asset life.
  • Develop and execute equipment reliability and maintenance strategies, including preventive and predictive maintenance programs, long-term asset improvement plans, equipment inspections, and maintenance documentation.
  • Lead and support outages, overhauls, and maintenance activities, including work scope development, maintenance planning, equipment evaluations, contractor oversight, and technical quality assurance.
  • Manage capital and expense projects from conception through closeout, including business justifications, budgeting, scheduling, technical evaluations, and the implementation of new technologies and best practices to optimize performance and reduce costs.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION:

Required: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred: Associate degree, Technical Degree, or bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Industrial Technology, Electrical Technology, Mechanical Technology, or related field.

EXPERIENCE:

Maintenance Specialist I

Related Experience

Required: Minimum of 8 years of experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position. Related experience includes maintenance, troubleshooting, reliability engineering, technical support, operations, project management, or equipment ownership responsibilities in power generation, industrial manufacturing, process industries, petrochemical facilities, mining operations, or similar heavy industrial environments.

College degree may be considered in lieu of equivalent experience of 2 years with an Associate’s degree and 4 years with a Bachelor’s degree.

Supervisory Experience

Preferred: Experience coordinating contractors, vendors, and technical work groups.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required: Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills, solid understanding of industrial mechanical and/or electrical systems, ability to analyze technical data and independently develop corrective actions, knowledge of reliability-centered maintenance concepts and maintenance best practices, ability to lead technical discussions and coordinate cross-functional teams, knowledge of equipment lifecycle management and root cause analysis techniques, strong verbal and written communication skills, ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously, and proficiency with Microsoft Office and computerized maintenance management systems.

Maintenance Specialist II

Related Experience

Required: Minimum of 10 years of work experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position is required.

College degree may be considered in lieu of equivalent experience of 2 years with an Associate’s degree and 4 years with a Bachelor’s degree.

Supervisory Experience

Preferred: Experience providing technical leadership for maintenance, outage, and project activities.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required: In addition to Maintenance Specialist I requirements:

  • Demonstrated success leading equipment reliability initiatives.
  • Ability to independently manage projects from development through implementation.
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills in assigned areas of responsibility.
  • Ability to mentor and train operations and maintenance personnel.
  • Capability to lead outage planning and equipment improvement efforts. members.

Maintenance Specialist III

Related Experience

Required: Minimum of 12 years of work experience related to the duties and responsibilities of this position is required.

College degree may be considered in lieu of equivalent experience of 2 years with an Associate’s degree and 4 years with a Bachelor’s degree.

Supervisory Experience

Preferred: Experience leading major equipment reliability programs, outage activities, and cross-functional improvement initiatives.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities (KSA)

Required: In addition to Specialist II requirements:

  • Recognized technical expertise in one or more industrial maintenance disciplines.
  • Ability to resolve highly complex technical and operational issues with minimal direction.
  • Demonstrated leadership of large-scale projects and major equipment initiatives.
  • Strong strategic planning and reliability management capabilities.
  • Ability to influence organizational decisions related to equipment reliability and asset management.

WORK CONDITIONS:

Work hours may exceed 40 hours per week. Work is performed indoors and outdoors around industrial equipment, elevated noise levels, hot surfaces, rotating machinery, and energized electrical systems. Work may be required during weekends, holidays, outages, and emergent equipment failures. Position may require periodic on-call responsibilities. Frequent walking, climbing, bending, and ascending stairs and ladders may be required.
