Who We Are
Tampa Bay Veterinary Specialists is the longest-standing emergency and specialty hospital in the Tampa Bay area. Our Surgery Service performs a wide variety of soft tissue, orthopedic, neurologic, and minimally invasive procedures using advanced surgical and anesthetic techniques. We foster a collaborative culture where teamwork, learning, and patient advocacy are at the center of everything we do.
About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Surgery Veterinary Technician to join our specialty surgery team.
This position is ideal for a technician who enjoys anesthesia, complex surgical procedures, and delivering exceptional perioperative nursing care. You'll work alongside skilled surgeons and a highly trained support team while utilizing advanced technical skills in a fast-paced specialty environment.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for surgery, including pre-anesthetic assessments and surgical site preparation
- Induce, maintain, and monitor anesthesia for a variety of specialty procedures
- Manage advanced anesthesia protocols, including CRIs and mechanical ventilation when indicated
- Assist surgeons while maintaining strict sterile technique
- Monitor patient vital signs throughout surgery and recovery
- Provide attentive post-operative nursing care
- Prepare and maintain surgical suites, instruments, and sterile packs
- Perform diagnostic testing, including radiographs and laboratory work
- Maintain accurate anesthesia and medical records
- Educate clients during surgical admissions and discharges
- Collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and the specialty team to provide outstanding patient care
What We're Looking For
- Experienced Veterinary Technician (credentialed preferred but not required)
- Strong anesthesia monitoring skills
- Surgical nursing experience preferred
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced specialty hospital
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
- Passion for patient advocacy and exceptional veterinary medicine
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to patient safety
