About Tampa Bay Marine Center

Tampa Bay Marine Center is Tampa Bay’s One Stop Boat Shop, known for high‑quality craftsmanship, custom rigging, and full‑scale refits. We’re a small, tight‑knit team of marine professionals who take pride in doing things the right way — clean installs, proper diagnostics, and workmanship that stands out in the industry.

Our culture is built on passion for the craft, accountability, and genuine respect for the people who work here. When you join TBMC, you’re not just another employee — you’re part of a crew that cares about the work, the customers, and each other.

Position Overview

We are seeking an Experienced Marine Technician with strong hands‑on experience in the marine industry. The ideal candidate has spent multiple years working for reputable boat companies, rigging shops, or repower centers — someone who knows boats inside and out and can walk in on day one ready to produce.

This role requires high-level diagnostic ability, strong understanding of 12‑volt systems, and the ability to properly install, service, and troubleshoot all major boat components and outboard systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Advanced Diagnostics — Identify root causes of electrical, rigging, and mechanical issues (not just replacing parts; verifying failure points).
  • Outboard Engine Services — Perform scheduled maintenance, repairs, and troubleshooting on modern outboards.
  • Rigging & Installations — Install electronics, audio systems, pumps, lighting, dash panels, accessories, and full rigging packages.
  • 12‑Volt Electrical Work — Wire boats cleanly, safely, and to ABYC standards.
  • Plumbing & Systems — Install and troubleshoot bilge pumps, livewell systems, freshwater systems, and related components.
  • Custom Projects — Participate in refits, repowers, and custom builds across a wide range of boat types.

What Makes an Ideal Candidate

  • Proven marine-industry experience — Multiple years at reputable boat shops, rigging departments, or repower centers.
  • Strong diagnostic mindset — You verify before replacing: test power, test components, isolate the failure, and solve the root cause.
  • High technical competency — You can rig a boat, wire a system, install electronics, and service outboards without supervision.
  • Loyal and dependable — You’ve shown commitment in past roles and are looking for a long-term home.
  • Professionalism — Punctual, organized, and able to communicate clearly with the team and customers.

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 year marine repair/rigging experience (7 preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of 12‑volt systems, outboard engines, and rigging fundamentals.
  • Ability to diagnose issues accurately and efficiently.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Must have basic tools; specialty tools and diagnostic equipment provided.

Benefits & Compensation

  • Competitive hourly pay: $30.00 – $42.50/hr depending on experience.
  • Bonus and Overtime opportunities.
  • Commission pay on certain jobs.
  • Paid time off.
  • Industry discounts.
  • Work with a passionate, skilled team in a positive small‑business environment.

Why Work at TBMC

If you’re tired of corporate marine shops, production-line installs, or environments where quality takes a back seat — TBMC is the opposite. We value craftsmanship, autonomy, and technicians who take pride in their work. You’ll have the freedom to do clean, proper installs and the support of a team that actually cares.
