Position Summary
The Tax Manager oversees tax engagements from preparation through final review while ensuring compliance with federal and state tax laws and the firm's quality standards. This leadership role combines advanced technical tax expertise with staff development, workflow management, client advisory services, and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and finalize complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, partnerships, S corporations, C corporations, trusts, and other business entities.
- Provide proactive tax planning and advisory services to business and individual clients.
- Lead tax engagements from planning through final review while ensuring compliance with tax laws and firm quality standards.
- Mentor, coach, and develop tax staff by providing technical guidance, training, and performance feedback.
- Manage tax workflow, filing deadlines, extensions, and quality control processes to ensure timely client service.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through responsive communication and trusted tax advice.
- Assist clients with IRS correspondence and notices.
- Collaborate with accounting staff on financial reporting and tax implications.
- Identify opportunities to improve firm processes, technology, and workflow efficiency.
- Stay current on changing tax laws and communicate relevant impacts to clients and the team.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Active Enrolled Agent (EA) or CPA license in good standing.
- Minimum 8 years of public accounting or tax firm experience.
- Minimum 8 years of tax review and leadership experience.
- Extensive experience reviewing Forms 1040, 1120, 1120-S, 1065
- Strong knowledge of federal and state tax law.
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple engagements while meeting deadlines.
- Experience mentoring or supervising tax professionals.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Intuit ProConnect Tax.
- Experience with QuickBooks Online.
- Experience with IRS notices and tax resolution
- Experience conducting tax planning and advisory meetings
- Experience working with small business clients and Entity structuring
