Childcare Assistant
Job Overview
We are seeking a compassionate, dependable, and dedicated Childcare Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about working with young children and committed to providing a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment that supports each child’s growth and development.
The Childcare Assistant will assist with the daily care and supervision of children, including infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children. This position requires someone who is patient, attentive, responsible, and able to work effectively as part of a team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide attentive, compassionate, and age-appropriate care and supervision to children throughout the day.
- Assist with daily routines, including meals, snacks, diapering, toileting, nap time, and transitions.
- Support and participate in developmentally appropriate activities that encourage learning, creativity, social skills, and physical development.
- Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and welcoming classroom environment.
- Monitor children closely to ensure their health, safety, and well-being at all times.
- Provide positive guidance and support to encourage appropriate behavior and healthy peer interactions.
- Assist children with individual needs and provide additional support when appropriate.
- Follow established childcare policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
- Assist with meal preparation, serving, and feeding while following applicable nutrition and food-safety requirements.
- Communicate professionally and respectfully with parents and guardians regarding children’s daily activities, needs, and progress.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, and other staff members to maintain a positive and inclusive learning environment.
- Assist with classroom organization, cleaning, sanitizing, and maintaining supplies and equipment.
- Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities as required.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Previous experience working with children in a childcare, preschool, educational, or related setting is preferred.
- Knowledge of early childhood development and age-appropriate practices.
- Experience caring for infants and toddlers is strongly preferred.
- Experience working with children with special needs or disabilities is highly desirable.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
- Ability to maintain a calm, patient, and positive attitude in a busy childcare environment.
- Strong awareness of child safety and supervision.
- Current First Aid and CPR certification is preferred, or willingness to obtain certification.
- Must be dependable, responsible, punctual, and professional.
- Must be able to follow directions and comply with childcare licensing requirements and center policies.
- A background in Early Childhood Education or a related field is a plus.
