Role Description This is a full-time, on-site Apprentice Carpenter role based in Aptos, CA. The Apprentice Carpenter will support experienced carpenters on residential remodeling projects, including kitchens, bathrooms, whole-house remodels, additions, and outdoor spaces. Day-to-day tasks include assisting with layout, measuring, cutting, and installing framing and finish components, as well as preparing and maintaining work areas. The role involves safe operation of hand tools and power tools, basic framing and trim work, demolition and site preparation, material handling, and cleanup. The Apprentice Carpenter will follow project plans and direction from supervisors, adhere to safety standards, and help maintain the high quality and professionalism that Talmadge Construction is known for.
Qualifications
- Foundational carpentry skills, including basic Carpentry techniques and willingness to learn more advanced methods.
- Ability to safely use Hand Tools (e.g., hammers, chisels, tape measures, levels) for measuring, cutting, and assembly.
- Experience or training in Power Tools operation (e.g., drills, saws, sanders) with a strong safety mindset.
- Exposure to or interest in Framing work, such as stud walls, floors, and roof structures.
- Interest in developing Finish Carpentry skills, including trim, doors, windows, and detailed interior work.
- High school diploma or equivalent; trade school, apprenticeship, or relevant coursework is a plus.
- Ability to read basic plans or willingness to learn, with strong attention to detail and measurements.
- Reliable transportation to Aptos, CA job sites, punctuality, and ability to perform physically demanding tasks.
- Commitment to teamwork, respectful communication, and representing the company professionally with clients and coworkers.
- Understanding of or interest in sustainable building practices and continuous skill development.
