POSITION TITLE: Church Musician/Pianist

DEPARTMENT PROFILE

To serve the church by playing piano for 10:30 am worship service and provide music accompaniment on piano for choir rehearsals, soloists, small groups, and selected performances.

PRINCIPAL FUNCTION

The Church Musician is responsible for playing the piano for the 10:30 am worship service and provide accompaniment on the piano for choir rehearsals during the week. Additional accompaniment would be required for select performances on Sundays at the 8:00am worship service as well.

POSITION RELATIONSHIP

• Reports to the Senior Pastor.
• Works collaboratively with Director of Music.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

• Serve as church musician, playing preludes, postludes, special selections, and playing with the Praise Team as needed for all scheduled 10:30 am services on piano.
• Accompany the congregation 50 Sundays at 10:30am service, in addition to selected services, i.e. Christmas Eve, Easter and others.
• Accompany choir rehearsals for the Senior (Chancel) Choir. That choir will rehearse once a week from Labor Day through Memorial Day—typically on Wednesday nights from 7:30pm – 9:00pm. Additional rehearsals will be required for special music events.
• Meet regularly with the Director of Music to review or select appropriate music worship services.
• Play for weddings and funerals, if available.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Essential

• Proficient in playing piano.
• A good working knowledge of contemporary praise songs.
• A good working knowledge of traditional hymns.
• Ability to accompany and collaborate with other musicians.

Desirable

• Bachelor of Music or working toward equivalent music related education.
• Familiarity with Lutheran liturgical worship.

WORK ENVIRONMENT, PHYSICAL DEMANDS, AND OTHER INFORMATION

• Must be able to play 88-key Schimmel grand piano, and Nord Stage 2 electric piano.

TIME COMMITMENT (8 hours/week)

• 4 hours Keyboard Musician for 10:30am worship service; (3 hours playing on Sunday 9am - 12noon and 1 hour of practice throughout the week)
• 4 hours Choir Accompanist; (2 hours of rehearsal & 2 hours practice throughout week)

This position could begin as soon as January 4, 2026.
Church Musician would receive 2 paid Sundays off a year

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $25.00 - $30.00 per hour

Expected hours: 8 per week
