POSITION GUIDE
POSITION: Pre-K Instructional Assistant (7.5 hours)
QUALIFICATIONS: Must meet Highly Qualified Paraprofessional Status
Required: Child Development Associate credential (CDA) or equivalent 9 hours of approved coursework in child development), at minimum

REPORTS TO: Principals
JOB GOAL: To provide assistance with activities and responsibilities associated with classroom instruction and/or other school programs.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Participate in professional development programs and staff meetings when requested to do so by the supervisor.
- Assist the teacher in providing a well-organized, smoothly functioning class environment in which students are assisted in taking full advantage of the instructional program.
- Work with individuals or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills initially introduced by the teacher.
- Assist the teacher in implementing special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based on the teacher's understanding of individual students, their needs, interests and abilities.
- Assist with independent study, drill, remedial and makeup work in accordance with standards assigned by the teacher.
- Assist the teacher in administering, scoring and recording diagnostic and assessment tests for individuals and small groups.
- Assist in distributing, collecting and correcting student work.
- Assist the teacher by reading to individuals and/or small groups plus listening to students read.
- Assist teachers in preparing instructional materials for classroom use.
- Become proficient in operating and maintaining such equipment as a laminating machine, copier and any other equipment necessary to preparing instructional materials.
- Construct bulletin boards/classroom learning displays as prescribed by the teacher.
- Assist any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
- Maintain an acceptable level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students.
- Transport and supervise students in school based and/or community based work experiences.
- Assist students in developing proper behavior/study habits.
- Assist in fostering student attitudes through teaching the values of citizenship, self- discipline, morality, and patriotism in all activities of the school.
- Prepare for classes assigned, show written evidence of preparation upon request of principal at the local school, and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Keep accurate, complete records and evaluate student progress as required by law, Board policy and administrative regulations.
- Take reasonable precautions to protect students and to safeguard all equipment, materials and facilities.
- Cooperate with other staff members in planning school activities, instructional goals, objectives, methods, and faculty meetings.
- Accept no other employment which interferes with the efficient and effective discharge of duties and responsibilities.
- Abide by the standards established by the Talladega County Board of Education for professional and personal conduct of teachers.
- Uphold and enforce Talladega County Board of Education policy.
- Strive to maintain and improve professional competence.
- Promote good public relations for the Talladega County School System.
- Engage in other reasonable duties during school necessary to the safe and effective operation of the school when requested by the principal.
- Respond to the needs and interests of the students and teachers.
- Prepare copies and assist with clerical responsibilities.
- Assist teachers and students in proper use, operation, and care of equipment.
- Assist student(s) with positioning, toileting, feeding, therapeutic exercises and other needed services.
- Load students safely onto and off the bus or in/out of cars as needed.
- Make certain that wheelchairs are locked and Q-straps, brackets, and other wheelchair apparatus are secure.
- Secure students in car seats, booster seats, and/or seatbelts.
- Insure that all students follow the bus safety guidelines.
- Assist in maintaining student discipline.
- Assist co-workers as needed.
- Assist the classroom teacher in the implementation of the IEP and in preparing instructional materials.
- Assist students with personal hygiene.
- Perform necessary housekeeping duties not assigned to the custodial staff.
- Assist teacher or bus driver in performing other related duties as emergencies may warrant.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Maintain daily attendance and do monthly attendance reports as needed.
- Handle student tardies as well as students checking in and out.
- Assist with implementation of the CNP program including but not limited to free and reduced lunch forms and tickets.
- Assist with counting any and all money as needed.
- Answer the telephone.
- Assist with preparation for school events/activities as needed.
- Assist with posting grades, running report cards, attendance, etc.
- Assist with school pictures.
- Assist with any typing responsibilities including purchase orders.
- Prepare honor rolls, grade verification sheets, class rolls, student schedules, etc.
- Maintain appropriate fixed asset inventory as needed.
EVALUATION: Evaluation will be completed by supervisor as outlined for support staff in Talladega County Board of Education policy.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Nine (9) month – 7.5 hour work day
WORK HOURS: Reporting time to school and dismissal will be set by the supervisor within the 7 .5 hour work day.
