Water/Wastewater Practice Lead (P.E.)

New York Metro Area | Hybrid | $185,000–$250,000 DOE

Are you a senior PE-licensed water/wastewater leader ready to shape a high-impact regional practice in one of the most demanding and well-funded water markets in the country?

This is a rare opportunity to step into a Practice Lead role with real authority within a nationally respected water consultancy delivering large-scale municipal and utility infrastructure programs across the New York metropolitan region.

Why This Role?

  • Lead and grow a mature, high-revenue water/wastewater practice serving NYC, Long Island, and Northern NJ
  • Balance technical leadership, people development, and client strategy
  • Influence hiring, mentoring, delivery standards, and succession planning
  • Serve as a senior advisor to utilities, authorities, and municipal leadership
  • Operate in a hybrid environment with autonomy expected at leadership level
  • Shape the next generation of Project Managers, technical specialists, and practice leaders
  • Progress toward regional, discipline, or executive leadership roles

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Providing strategic oversight of municipal and utility water/wastewater programs, including treatment, conveyance, regulatory compliance, and resilience initiatives
  • Leading multiple Project Managers and senior technical teams across concurrent, large-scale capital programs
  • Setting and maintaining technical standards, QA/QC processes, and delivery frameworks
  • Partnering with clients on capital improvement programs (CIPs), consent-driven programs, and long-range planning
  • Supporting business development through trusted client relationships, pursuits, and strategic growth initiatives
  • Mentoring senior engineers and PMs as part of a structured leadership succession plan
  • Collaborating with regional and national leadership on resourcing, investment, and practice strategy

What You Bring

  • Active Professional Engineer (P.E.) license (NY or NJ required or obtainable)
  • 15–25 years of experience in water/wastewater or water resources engineering
  • Proven experience leading practices, large programs, or multi-disciplinary teams within a consulting environment
  • Strong credibility with NYC-area utilities, authorities, and public-sector stakeholders
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering (Master’s preferred)
  • Ability to balance technical excellence with people, client, and business leadership
