Position Details:
Job Title: Workday Boundary Systems / 3rd-Party Solutions Architect
Contract Duration: 12 months contract (potential to extend)
Location: Boston, MA preferred, but will consider remote candidates in the following states: AL, FL, GA, LA, MA, MO, NH, OH, SC, TX, RI, MD
Job Overview:
We are seeking a Workday Boundary Systems / 3rd-Party Solutions Architect to lead the strategic architecture, governance, integration design, and optimization of systems interfacing with Workday. This senior-level role requires deep expertise in enterprise application architecture, Workday integration patterns, boundary system design, data governance, and security.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong blend of technical and functional knowledge across Workday domains (HCM, Finance, Payroll) and will partner closely with IT, business leadership, and external partners to design scalable, secure, and future-state solutions aligned with enterprise objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Architecture & Technical Leadership:
- Design target-state architecture for Workday boundary systems and third-party platforms across HR, Payroll, Finance, and related domains
- Define integration, identity, and data exchange patterns (APIs, middleware, file transfers, web services, event-driven approaches)
- Evaluate current-state systems and recommend modernization and rationalization strategies
- Establish architecture standards for data governance, authentication, resiliency, and system interoperability
- Develop architecture artifacts including diagrams, dependency maps, and interface inventories
- Conduct technical impact analysis for Workday releases and cross-platform dependencies
- Ensure readiness for implementation, cutover planning, and support transitions
Strategy & Governance:
- Develop enterprise standards and best practices for Workday-adjacent solutions
- Lead architecture governance, design reviews, and decision-making processes
- Partner with enterprise architecture, cybersecurity, and infrastructure teams
- Assess vendor solutions and third-party platforms for alignment with enterprise strategy
- Lead architecture workstreams for large-scale Workday programs and transformations
Collaboration & Communication:
- Drive alignment across business, IT, security, and data stakeholders
- Present architecture strategies, risks, and recommendations to executive leadership
- Build strong relationships with application owners and implementation partners
- Mentor architects, engineers, and analysts on best practices and solution design
Qualifications Required:
- Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or related field
- 8 years of experience in enterprise architecture, solution design, or integrations
- Strong expertise in Workday integrations and security architecture
- Deep knowledge of integration patterns, data architecture, and system interoperability
Preferred:
- Experience in healthcare or similarly complex, regulated environments
- Experience with UKG and/or identity platforms such as SailPoint
- TOGAF, cloud architecture, or related certifications
- Master’s degree in a related field
