What are the responsibilities and job description for the Utility O&M Technician position at TalentClout?
Job Description Join a growing utility-scale solar operation where your technical expertise directly supports grid reliability and clean energy production. This is a hands-on role in a high-performance environment, working with large PV systems and advanced monitoring technology to keep a major solar facility running safely and efficiently. About the Role: You will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of utility-scale solar PV systems, ensuring maximum availability and performance of the plant.
Working closely with site leadership and control room teams, you will diagnose and resolve technical issues, execute preventive maintenance, and support safe, compliant operations in accordance with industry standards. Key Responsibilities: Perform routine and corrective maintenance on utility-scale solar PV arrays, inverters, transformers, and associated electrical equipment. Troubleshoot system performance issues using SCADA data, monitoring platforms, and field inspections to identify faults and implement repairs.
Operate and interpret readings from test equipment including multimeters, IV curve tracers, and insulation resistance testers to validate system health. Execute and document preventive maintenance activities according to site schedules and OEM guidelines to minimise downtime. Follow and enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures during maintenance and repair work to ensure equipment is safely de-energised.
Assist in the operation and oversight of SCADA and monitoring systems, including alarm response, data review, and basic configuration adjustments. Maintain accurate maintenance records, work orders, and technical reports to support regulatory compliance and performance analysis. Coordinate with site management and external contractors during planned outages, inspections, and major component replacements.
Key Requirements: Hands-on experience working with solar PV systems in an operations, maintenance, or field service capacity. Strong proficiency in troubleshooting electrical and mechanical issues in inverters, transformers, and balance-of-plant equipment. Practical knowledge of NFPA 70E and OSHA safety standards, with proven adherence in a field environment.
Experience using SCADA or similar monitoring platforms to diagnose system issues and support operational decisions. Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, single-line diagrams, and technical manuals. Demonstrated capability to plan and execute maintenance activities independently while meeting deadlines.
Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and at heights when required. Valid driver's license and ability to travel locally to the site as needed. Desirable Skills: Experience in utility-scale solar or high-voltage electrical systems in a power generation environment.
Familiarity with specific inverter and transformer OEM equipment commonly used in large solar plants. Background in data analysis or performance engineering for solar assets. Experience with computerised maintenance management systems (CMMS) for work order and asset tracking.
Basic IT/networking knowledge related to SCADA, communication hardware, and remote monitoring. Qualifications: High school diploma or GED required. Technical trade school certificate or associate degree in Electrical, Electronics, Renewable Energy, or related field preferred.
Formal training in NFPA 70E electrical safety practices strongly preferred. OSHA safety training (e.g., OSHA 10 or OSHA 30) advantageous. Relevant electrical or industrial maintenance certifications considered an asset
