Unit Information:
Beds: 9 Labor Beds, 3 ORs, 4 PACUs, 11 Antepartum, 4 triage, 27 Postpartum,
Census? 2-14 L&D
Minimum Years of Experience required? 2 years L&D RN experience., 1 year OB Surg
Tech experience:
Will you accept a first-time traveler? Yes
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
Laboring patients, Antepartum patients, a triage area, PACU and OR
Patient Ratios:
RN: Follow AWHONN Guidelines
OB Tech: 2-3 per shift
Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.):
RN: BLS, ACLS, NRP, Fetal Monitoring required. BCR (Basic Cardiac Rythm) required - meaning traveler will be required to pass an EKG competency exam as part of Compliance.
Surg Tech: BLS, CST
Skills required:
RN: Strong clinical assessment and L&D skills for Level 1 Trauma Hospital, IV insertion and care, central line management, Care coordination with interdisciplinary teams
Surg Tech: scrub surgeries, c-sections, set up tables for vaginal deliveries, stock the unit
Support within the Department:
2 OB Surg Techs per shift
CNA? Duties? Yes - assist with VS, Glucose Checks, baths, feeding, ambulating patients, assisting turning patients, hourly rounding, transporting patients as needed (Hospital has designated Transport Team); obtain blood from blood bank
Receptionist/HUC? Unit secretary on unit 7a-11p; then house wide call secretary 11p-7a
Charge nurse - may have patients
IV/VAT Team? Not an IV team - do have a PICC team
RT 24/7? yes
Hospitalist 24/7? yes
Intensivist 24/7? Yes
OB Physicians, 24/7
Bedside and Nursing Station Tele/Fetal monitoring
Technology/Equipment:
EMR: EPIC
IV Pump: Alaris
Med dispensing: Pyxis
Monitors: Phillips
Unit specific equipment:
VS3 vital sign monitors, Nova Glucose Stat Strips Cardiac Telemetry monitoring
Portable vital signs monitors (Dynamapp)
PCA pain management
Bladder scanners, IV pump, portable oxygen system
Glucommander
Suction machine
Use of admission/ discharge protocol for rapid turnover
Floating: If yes, where?
RN: All adult med surg / telemetry units in house
Surg Tech: none
Orientation (facility and unit):
1 day orientation with work on educational modules
2 days departmental
Scheduling:
Weekend rotation: 5-6 weekend shifts out of 12 (on a 6-week schedule)
On call? If so, what is that schedule? No call
Holiday Expectations: work one shift of each major holiday (Thanksgiving Day or day after 12/24 or 12/25 12/31 or 1/1
RTO Requests: Manager approval
Other notes:
Scrub Color: RN- Navy; LPN- Ceil Blue; L&D surgical green w/ scrub exchange system
Parking: Free? Have free parking around campus or can pay to park in parking decks
Unit Culture: busy but work as team
