The Specimen Processing Technician I (SPT I) is responsible for performing general support functions within the Specimen Processing Department. Key Responsibilities
- Perform specimen processing tasks including A-station, presort, centrifugation, aliquoting, imaging/microfilming, and delivery of processed specimens to laboratory departments.
- Complete all assigned functions with accuracy, confidence, and within required timeframes.
- Accurately enter high-volume alphanumeric data (minimum 6,000 keystrokes per hour).
- Learn and understand specimen types associated with ordered tests.
- Stay up-to-date with changing compliance regulations related to test ordering.
- Maintain productivity and quality standards in a production-driven environment.
- Communicate effectively with staff at all levels and respond professionally to varying customer demands.
- Demonstrate flexibility to adapt to daily operational changes.
- Practice proper safety procedures in a biohazard environment.
- Keep work area clean, organized, and compliant with safety and regulatory guidelines.
- Support departmental goals, values, and policies at all times.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods as required.
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Basic computer knowledge required; familiarity with laboratory testing and specimen processing preferred.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to learn quickly.
- Understanding medical terminology is a plus.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, production environment.
- No prior experience required.
- Previous laboratory or hospital laboratory experience preferred.
- Experience in a production environment or medical background is a plus.
