Registered Respiratory Therapist

SHIFT: DAYS 7A-7P

Types of patients: NEO and pediatric
Must be able to work PICU/NICU and PEDI ER

Summary:

Responsible for the pulmonary care of critical, non-critical, and chronically ill adult, pediatric, and neonatal patients under the direction of a physician with minimal supervision. Performs patient assessments and institutes respiratory care plans. Performs various technical and diagnostic respiratory therapy procedures in all areas of the hospital.

Responsibilities:

1. Meets expectations of the applicable OneCHRISTUS Competencies: Leader of Self, Leader of Others, or Leader of Leaders.
2. Include, but are not limited to:
3. Emergency (Code Blue and White) response;
4. Airway management including nasotracheal & endotracheal suctioning;
5. Delivery of aerosolized drugs;
6. Ventilator management (i.e. setup and operation);
7. Oral hygiene;
8. Airway retaining device placement and maintenance;
9. Airway support device management including BiPAP and CPAP devices;
10. Oxygen delivery devices and therapeutic monitoring;
11. Chest film analysis;
12. Bloodgas collection and analysis;
13. EKG analysis;
14. Accurate and complete documentation;
15. Cleaning and stocking of equipment and supplies as necessary;
16. Participate in CAP and JC surveys.
17. RRTs may function as Shift Leader or serve in the capacity of Team Leader
18. Advanced practice skills may include:
19. Therapeutic gas management and monitoring, including INO and HeO2;
20. Pulmonary Function Testing;
21. Bronchoscopy assist;
22. Hemodynamic Monitoring;
23. Waveform analysis;
24. Nocturnal SpO2 evaluation (Desaturation Studies);
25. Polysomnography;
26. Transport duties.

Job Requirements:

Education/Skills

1. See licensure and/or certification requirements

Experience

1. 1 - 3 years of experience preferred

Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications

1. RT or RCP License in state of TX required
2. BLS required (AHA only)
3. Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by NBRC required

In accordance with the CHRISTUS Health License, Certification and Registration Verification Policy, all Associates are required to obtain the required certifications for their respective positions within the designated time frame.
