About The Role

This entry level engineer position is an opportunity to work on a fun and collaborative team who is dedicated to water quality, process improvement and producing quality designs to improve the Wastewater Treatment Divisions (WTD) Conveyance and Treatment Systems.

Candidates will be involved in conveyance projects, pump station upgrades, and treatment plant upgrades. We are seeking Civil, Mechanical, and Instrumentation and Control Engineers. You will work with Senior Level Engineers who will mentor and train you to produce designs, technical specifications, technical reports and contract document that will help us deliver our Capital Improvement Plan that is valued over $400 Million per year.

This position follows a hybrid work model, blending remote and in-person work.

About The Team

The King County Wastewater Treatment Division is responsible for centralized wastewater treatment for all of King County and conveying sewage from Cities and Sewer Districts in King County to our regional treatment plants. This position will be in our Engineering and Technical Resources Unit who are a fun and talented group of engineers, technical professionals, and designers who work to accomplish our Capital Improvement Program.

Job Duties

What You Will Be Doing:

  • Provide basic engineering designs and assist in complex wastewater engineering designs for new construction projects and repairs and modifications to existing facilities.
  • Assist in preparing wastewater project work plans, schedules, and budgets; assemble technical information for use by the project teams and journey/senior/principal engineers.
  • Assist in reviews of consultant pre-design and final design documents. Validate cost estimates including technical assumptions and cost factors.
  • Assist in the procurement process for consultants, equipment, and construction work.
  • Assist in reviewing consultant design work to identify and resolve potential design coordination conflicts between disciplines; ensure that design standards and code requirements have been implemented.
  • Provide technical assistance during construction, including submittal reviews, RFI responses, and construction inspections.

Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills

Qualifications You Bring:

  • A bachelor's degree in engineering
  • Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of mathematics, physical and engineering sciences, and the principles and methods of engineering analysis and design.

It Would Be Great if You Also Bring:

  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE / EIT) certification
  • Familiarity with wastewater and/or industrial facilities and construction principles and techniques are preferred.
  • Mechanical / Chemical / Civil Engineers: Basic knowledge of hydraulic calculations
  • Instrumentation & Control System Engineer: Basic knowledge of measurement instruments and digital logic.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals from consultants, Operations and Maintenance, other County staff, and other stakeholders is essential in ensuring that project schedules and contracts follow County standards.

Supplemental Information

Working Conditions

  • Work Location: The Engineering team works in a hybrid model, with days in the office as well as telecommuting. The ratio of remote to onsite work will be dependent on business needs and is subject to change. The primary onsite location is King Street Center, 201 S Jackson St, Seattle, Washington, 98104. Employees must reside in Washington state and within a reasonable distance to their King County worksite to respond to workplace reporting requirements. King County has a robust collection of tools and resources to support working remotely. The individual selected for this opportunity will join an innovative and progressive team that is redefining how we work as we transition to the department's hybrid environment. Employees will be provided with a County-issued laptop and must maintain a home workspace with an internet connection where they can reliably perform work and remain available and responsive during scheduled work hours.
  • Work Schedule: This full-time position works a 40-hour work week. This position is exempt from the overtime provision of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA) and is not overtime eligible.
