The Traffic Engineering (TE) division of Public Works is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineering Technician II to join our team and support a variety of traffic engineering-related tasks, both in the office and in the field.
This position will assist with traffic data collection, road safety evaluations, traffic control plan reviews, and other technical analyses, provide recommendations for safety improvements to the Traffic Engineer, and address and respond to citizen requests and concerns related to traffic operations. The ideal candidate will be technically qualified, enjoy problem-solving, and possess excellent communication and customer service skills.

Typical Tasks May Include
- Assists with analysis of traffic data and crash reports to support safety evaluations and operational studies.
- Collects traffic data, including turning movement counts, speed studies, classification counts, pedestrian/bicycle counts, and travel time studies.
- Sets up, operates, and maintains traffic data collection equipment such as counters and radar units and associated software
- Prepares and issues work orders for installation and maintenance of traffic signs, pavement markings, and other traffic control devices.
- Reviews and assists in the preparation of traffic control plans for construction and special events.
- Responds to citizen inquiries and complaints related to traffic safety, parking, and neighborhood traffic concerns; documents and communicates findings and recommended actions.
- Coordinates with other City departments, contractors, and public agencies on traffic operations and safety issues.
- Assists in preparing technical reports, memoranda, and presentations for internal use, public meetings, and City Council or committee review.
