Medical Laboratory Technologist

Job Summary

Perform laboratory analysis on received specimens to provide clinical information for the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Ensure overall quality, efficiency, and safety in the execution of assigned technical duties.

Essential Functions

• Demonstrate proficiency by adhering to testing procedures, policies, and quality assurance guidelines for equipment and work area.
• Document corrective actions for any non-conforming events.
• Prepare reagents and maintain an adequate supply of materials for test procedures, effectively managing inventory to reduce departmental waste and expenses.
• Exercise clinical judgment in assessing priorities, identifying problems, and offering solutions to test systems through appropriate department channels.
• Assist with the review and revision of procedures and documentation related to accreditation, adhering to all regulatory requirements, including but not limited to CAP, TJC, and OSHA.
• Maintain clear, real-time communications shift-to-shift and with leadership regarding issues, concerns, and problems that may affect patient care or department operations.
• Participate in planning and implementing change through participation in staff meetings, task forces, or projects.
• Participate in the competency assessment program, where qualified.
  
  

Physical Requirements

Work in a fast-paced clinical environment that contains biohazardous (infectious) materials along with chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards. Duties may involve standing, walking, stretching, stooping, bending, and lifting light (20-pound) to moderately heavy (50-pound) loads.

Skills And Qualifications

• Associate's degree required.
• MLT registry eligible or equivalent required.
• MLT (ASCP) or equivalent required within one year of hire.
