About the Role
We are seeking an experienced Nurse Manager to lead Labor & Delivery operations at a large tertiary care hospital serving a diverse patient population.
The Nurse Manager is responsible for the clinical, operational, financial, and personnel management of the Labor & Delivery department. This leader will ensure safe, high-quality patient care while fostering staff engagement, professional development, quality improvement, and operational excellence.
Responsibilities
• Provide overall leadership and management for Labor & Delivery services
• Ensure delivery of safe, high-quality patient care 24 hours a day
• Manage daily clinical and operational activities of the department
• Lead staffing, scheduling, recruitment, retention, and performance management efforts
• Develop and implement departmental goals, quality initiatives, and operational strategies
• Monitor patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, and regulatory compliance
• Collaborate with physicians, nursing leadership, educators, and interdisciplinary teams
• Support evidence-based practice initiatives and clinical excellence
• Drive quality improvement efforts, including maternal and newborn outcome metrics
• Promote a positive, inclusive, and collaborative workplace culture
• Participate in budget management and resource planning
• Serve as a mentor and coach to nursing staff and emerging leaders
• Support staff education, competency development, and professional growth
Department Highlights
• High-volume Labor & Delivery service
• Approximately 550–600 births per month
• Level IV NICU support
• Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Midwifery, OB, and Family Medicine collaboration
• Dedicated OB Emergency Department and OB Operating Rooms

• 24/7 anesthesia, laborist, and neonatology coverage
Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) required, or Associate Degree in Nursing with commitment to obtain BSN within two years of hire
• Active Washington Registered Nurse license
• BLS certification from the American Heart Association
• Minimum 3 years of recent Labor & Delivery nursing experience
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's Degree in Nursing or related field
• Previous Nurse Manager, Assistant Nurse Manager, Clinical Supervisor, Charge Nurse, or other nursing leadership experience
• Experience leading quality improvement initiatives
• Strong background in staff development, retention, and team leadership
• Experience in high-acuity Labor & Delivery settings
