Key Qualifications
- Minimum 1 year RECENT L&D work experience in an acute care (hospital) setting
- Active California Registered Nurse License
- Current BLS (Basic Life Support) certification
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights and weekends
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Exceptional critical thinking and problem-solving abilities
- Emotional resilience and ability to remain calm under pressure
Role Responsibilities
As a Labor and Delivery RN in our Acute Care setting, you'll be the guardian angel for expectant mothers and their precious newborns. Your role will be multifaceted, challenging, and incredibly fulfilling. Here's what you can expect:
- Prenatal Care and Assessment
- Conduct comprehensive assessments of pregnant women upon admission
- Monitor fetal heart rates and maternal vital signs
- Identify potential complications and alert the healthcare team promptly
- Educate patients on what to expect during labor and delivery
- Labor Support and Management
- Provide emotional support and comfort measures to laboring mothers
- Administer medications and epidurals as prescribed
- Monitor labor progression and communicate updates to the healthcare team
- Assist with natural and medicated pain management techniques
- Delivery Assistance
- Prepare the delivery room and necessary equipment
- Assist obstetricians during vaginal and cesarean deliveries
- Perform immediate newborn assessments and interventions
- Facilitate skin-to-skin contact and early breastfeeding initiation
- Postpartum Care
- Monitor maternal recovery and newborn adaptation
- Provide education on postpartum care, breastfeeding, and newborn care
