We are seeking an experienced Emergency Room (ER) Nurse Manager to provide clinical and operational leadership for a fast-paced Emergency Department in Fort Walton Beach, Florida.
This full-time leadership opportunity is designed for an experienced Emergency Department RN leader with a strong acute-care background and demonstrated success supervising clinical teams. The ER Nurse Manager will work closely with the Emergency Services Director, physicians, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary teams to ensure exceptional patient care, efficient department operations, and strong clinical outcomes.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader who is comfortable supporting evening and overnight Emergency Department operations while developing staff, improving patient flow, and promoting a culture of safety, accountability, and teamwork.
Schedule
- Employment Type: Full-Time
- Primary Shift: Evenings/Nights
- Due to current departmental needs, the initial schedule may require significant overnight coverage, potentially including 7:00 PM – 7:00 AM.
- The anticipated long-term goal is to transition the position toward a more traditional 8–10-hour leadership schedule, with start times potentially ranging from approximately 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
- Schedule flexibility is required based on Emergency Department staffing and operational needs.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide clinical and operational leadership for Emergency Department nursing services.
- Oversee evening and overnight ER operations, ensuring appropriate staffing, workflow, patient flow, and resource utilization.
- Supervise, coach, mentor, and evaluate Emergency Department nursing staff.
- Maintain a visible leadership presence and provide clinical support to staff during high-volume and high-acuity periods.
- Promote safe, evidence-based, patient-centered emergency nursing care.
- Collaborate with the Emergency Services Director, physicians, and interdisciplinary teams to improve clinical and operational performance.
- Monitor patient throughput, staffing, productivity, quality, and patient safety metrics.
- Identify barriers affecting Emergency Department flow and implement strategies to improve efficiency.
- Lead and support quality improvement, performance improvement, and patient safety initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with hospital policies, nursing standards, infection prevention practices, and applicable regulatory requirements.
- Assist with recruitment, onboarding, development, engagement, and retention of Emergency Department staff.
- Address staff and operational concerns while promoting accountability and a positive work environment.
- Support departmental goals related to patient experience, quality outcomes, employee engagement, and operational excellence.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required.
- Active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license permitting practice in Florida, including an applicable multistate/Compact RN license.
- PALS certification required.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of recent acute-care Emergency Department leadership experience as an ER Nurse Manager, Supervisor, or comparable nursing leadership role.
- Strong understanding of Emergency Department operations, clinical standards, patient safety, and acute-care nursing practices.
- Demonstrated ability to lead nursing teams in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment.
- Strong communication, critical-thinking, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills.
- Ability to work a flexible evening/night schedule based on departmental needs.
