Senior Electrical Estimator
Location: Hartford County, CT – Onsite
Work Model: In-office with occasional site walk-throughs
A well-established commercial electrical contractor is seeking a Senior Electrical Estimator to lead the estimating team and manage preconstruction and bidding efforts on complex commercial projects. This role is ideal for a hands-on estimator with extensive experience in electrical estimating who is ready to mentor a team, review large-scale estimates, and partner with executive leadership on bid strategy.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide management and oversight of the estimating team
- Review and approve all team proposals prior to submission
- Analyze and prepare large, complex electrical estimates
- Identify risks, scope gaps, and pricing exposure in bids and preconstruction
- Mentor junior and mid-level estimators, providing constructive feedback
- Implement process improvements to enhance estimating accuracy and efficiency
- Partner with executive leadership on bid strategy and backlog planning
- Prepare and lead estimates for major projects, including detailed quantity take-offs and comprehensive cost proposals
- Ensure estimates accurately reflect scope, schedule, labor, materials, subcontractors, and risk
- Compile bid packages with all required documentation and ensure timely submission
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, vendors, and subcontractors
- Participate in pre-bid meetings and job walk-throughs
- Track estimating performance metrics, bid results, and historical cost data
- Recommend value engineering options where appropriate
- Collaborate with project management, preconstruction, and operations teams to align estimating assumptions with field realities
Qualifications:
- Minimum 7 years of commercial electrical estimating experience
- At least 2 years managing or mentoring an estimating team
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, drawings, and specifications
- Experience with detailed takeoffs and bid preparation
- Accubid (ConEst) experience strongly preferred; Bluebeam experience a plus
Compensation & Benefits:
- Base salary: $140,000 – $175,000, depending on experience
