Controller – Privately Owned Manufacturing Company

Plainfield, IN | $130,000–$150,000 per year plus bonus

About the Opportunity

A privately owned, fast-scaling manufacturer in Plainfield, Indiana is looking for its first true Controller. The company builds to order, is growing quickly, and needs a finance leader who can build the function from the ground up. This is not a reporting-only seat. You will own all accounting and finance, and you will work closely with operations, sales, and ownership on how the business prices, quotes, funds, and grows.

What You'll Do

• Own the entire accounting and finance function, end to end
• Build job costing and inventory costing from scratch, and confirm the company is quoting profitably
• Take ownership of the quote model. Quoting is currently done by the engineers, and the model needs to be rebuilt. You will be deeply involved in how pricing is built and applied.
• Diagnose why earnings aren't tracking with sales performance. The ratios are off, and you will find out why and bring the two back into alignment.
• Establish financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting where none exists today
• Lead the transition from receivables-based financing to traditional bank relationships and a line of credit
• Build the financial case for facility expansion and capital equipment purchases
• Partner with senior leadership on corporate development, including licensing and C-suite conversations
• Support the investor relationship and coordinate with the outside CPA
• Stay hands-on with both the operations and sales teams

What You Bring

• Prior experience as a Controller (or higher)
• Manufacturing experience (non-negotiable)
• Job costing experience
• Inventory management and costing experience
• Experience building financial planning, budgeting, and forecasting from scratch
• Experience securing a line of credit and working with banks
• Strong command of cash flow management, quoting and pricing models, and planning at least a quarter ahead
• Experience as a one-person department and building a team or function from nothing
• Maturity and a real grasp of high-level strategic work
• A self-starter and leader who comes in with a point of view and the confidence to back it up
• Flexibility. This is a small, fast-moving, hands-on environment.
