Assistant Nurse Manager – Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Position Overview

An established healthcare organization is seeking an experienced Assistant Nurse Manager to support the leadership and operations of a highly specialized Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This role offers the opportunity to combine clinical expertise with leadership responsibilities while helping deliver exceptional care to critically ill and premature newborns.

As a key member of the nursing leadership team, the Assistant Nurse Manager will oversee daily unit operations, coordinate patient care activities, support staff development, drive quality and performance initiatives, and promote a collaborative and inclusive work environment. This exempt leadership position is scheduled for 8-hour shifts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support the daily clinical and operational management of a Level III NICU.
  • Coordinate patient care delivery and ensure high standards of quality and safety.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop nursing staff while fostering professional growth and career advancement.
  • Monitor unit performance and implement process improvement initiatives.
  • Promote collaboration, teamwork, and effective communication among interdisciplinary healthcare teams.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory, accreditation, and organizational standards.
  • Assist with staffing, scheduling, resource allocation, and operational efficiency.
  • Create and maintain a positive, inclusive, and patient-focused work environment.

Qualifications

Required Education

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or Master of Science in Nursing (MSN).

Required Licensure & Certifications

  • Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of California.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification required within 90 days of hire or transfer.
  • Neonatal Intensive Care Nursing Certification (RNC-NIC) required within 6 months of hire or transfer.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience.
  • Prior leadership, supervisory, charge nurse, or management experience required.
  • Experience in Neonatal Intensive Care preferred.

  • Competitive salary range: $146,473 – $190,424 annually.
