Are you a senior leader experienced in managing complex human services systems? May Institute is seeking an experienced Executive Director to lead our Adult Services programs for individuals with I/DD in Eastern Massachusetts. This is a unique opportunity to oversee a large, distributed service system, and make a measurable difference in the lives of individuals with Intellectual/developmental disabilities.
This is a senior leadership role for someone who can think systemically, make sound decisions with imperfect information, and lead through others.
The Role:
The Executive Director is accountable for the overall performance, quality, and sustainability of Adult Services in Eastern Massachusetts. This includes operational oversight, financial stewardship, regulatory compliance, and leadership of a multi-layered management team.
Key responsibilities include:
- Providing system-level leadership across multiple programs and locations
- Making thoughtful decisions in complex situations and taking responsibility for outcomes
- Leading through directors and managers by setting clear expectations and supporting strong local leadership
- Overseeing budgets, payer relationships, and operational performance
- Maintaining regulatory compliance and addressing quality or risk issues early
- Partnering across departments and communicating effectively with families, funders, and stakeholders

Technology and Data Use:

This role does not require technical configuration skills, but does require modeling use, asking good questions, and holding leaders accountable for effective system use.
Qualifications
- 10 years of leadership experience in human services, preferably within Massachusetts DDS-funded systems
- Experience overseeing large, multi-site, 24-hour residential or community-based programs
- Strong financial and operational judgment
- Ability to lead through others in complex environments
- Master’s degree in human services, business, or related field preferred
