What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Estimating position at Talent ACQ?
Director of Estimating
Specialty Infrastructure Contractor | Southern New England | $150,000–$175,000
We're recruiting a Director of Estimating on behalf of a well-established specialty infrastructure contractor in Rhode Island.
This company installs guardrail, bridge rail, highway safety barriers, and high-security fencing for state DOTs, transit agencies, airports, and major industrial and institutional clients across Southern New England. They've been doing it for 40 years. Their project history includes 350 miles of guardrail installed and a client list that includes major transportation agencies, federal contractors, and landmark commercial properties in the region. This isn't residential work — it's heavy-highway and commercial infrastructure, and they're one of the more serious operators in that space in the Northeast.
The opportunity: The Director of Estimating owns the function, reports directly to the President, and is accountable for building and protecting a profitable backlog. That means bid strategy, pricing, contract negotiation, contract administration, and clean handoff to project management and construction. You'll also be building out the department — SOPs, team structure, technology adoption (HCSS HeavyBid). It's an ownership role, not a management layer.
What they're looking for:
- 10 years of estimating experience in guardrail, fence, roadway, or related heavy highway construction
- Strong working knowledge of DOT standards, FHWA requirements, and public bidding processes
- HCSS HeavyBid experience preferred; comfort with construction estimating technology required
- Engineering or Construction Management degree preferred — relevant experience will be considered
- Office-based in Rhode Island with occasional project site visits
Salary : $140,000 - $180,000
