DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES: Duties include but are not limited to:
- Performs all duties of a Radiation Protection Helper.
- Operates Radiation Protection equipment and instrumentation and conducts tests
directed.
- Performs assigned radiation and contamination surveys, records results and
procedures.
- Evaluates survey results and, based on these, posts new or updates existing
- Monitors Radiation Protection equipment, takes appropriate action and reports
instruments and records test results.
- Records required data in appropriate Radiation Protection logs and log sheets.
- Performs equipment and system checking or inspection and documents required
Radiation Protection procedures.
- Observes all Radiation Protection regulations including proper use of anticontamination clothing and equipment. Reports to supervision any observed
Protection requirements and takes action as necessary.
- Collects air, water, bioassay samples; records information necessary to complete
- Assists employees in the proper use of monitoring equipment and other protective
- Calculates air and water concentrations, removable and fixed contamination levels
- Performs decontamination of personnel, equipment or facilities as necessary or
- Provides Radiation Protection coverage at jobs or locations, as assigned, and
stopping work as necessary.
- Distributes and collects personnel monitoring devices and records required
- Maintains thorough knowledge of appropriate plans and procedures. Radiological
and limits, radiation and contamination instrument detection principles and
operation, Plant Controlled Access Areas, Security Procedures and Emergency
Procedures.
- Complies with station procedures and policy, implementing the effective Code of
Guides, National standards and subsequent changes applicable to the work
performed.
- Participates in and successfully completes all aspects of training and
lectures, on-the-job training and self-study.
- Performs such other related duties as assigned or as necessary.
- High School diploma or equivalent and at least one of the following:
- Associates Degree in Radiation Protection / Health Physics or one of the
- Completion of Relevant Industry Training for a Junior RP Technician as
- 1 year of experience as an Industry Junior RP Technician.
- Successful completion of high school level mathematics and physics or equivalent.
- Satisfactory physical and mental condition as evidenced by successfully passing
- Ability to satisfactorily complete Radiation Protection technician training as
- Completion of Radiation Protection selection examination(s).
- Valid Pennsylvania Driver's License.
