Overview:
The Assistant Portfolio Manager is a critical member of the Talcott Financial Investment team. This investment team is directly responsible for designing and implementing the strategic asset allocation for Talcott’s $50B general account portfolio, as well as oversight of external managers as part of Talcott’s multi-manager investment platform; in addition to oversight and implementation of hedging strategies for Talcott’s separate account and variable annuity businesses. This position is primarily responsible for working with external managers to maximize general account performance subject to various accounting, statutory and economic constraints while analyzing credit risk within the general account. The Assistant Portfolio Manager will furthermore oversee the external managers as part of Talcott’s multi-manager investment platform. Additionally, our selected talent will have the opportunity to contribute across the value chain in Talcott’s planned growth for its investment portfolio. Key accountabilities shall include:
Primary Responsibilities:
Propose trading programs to enhance income, reduce capital and improve risk adjusted returns subject to constraints
Support data review and aggregate information on investments
Develop and implement guidelines for external managers, taking into consideration statutory, contractual and enterprise limits
Identify and quantify emerging credit risks within the General Account
Monitor credit quality against risk tolerance and established limits
Collaborate with external managers to understand investment rationale and relative value considerations.
Contribute to the development of Talcott’s internal macroeconomic views relating to interest rates, credit spreads and equity markets
Understand industry trends and regulatory developments which could pose risks or present opportunity for the General Account
Potential to underwrite and surveil investments within Talcott’s Private Credit and Private Equity Alternatives portfolio
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in finance, investment or risk management
Minimum of 2 years of investment analytic experience
Demonstrated ability to analyze and evaluate fixed income asset classes
Possess an understanding of sectors’ characteristics, liquidity, spread drivers, etc.
Proficiency in Excel/SQL, including review and presentation of data analysis, familiarity with programming languages (VBA/R/Python) is a plus!
Understanding of U.S. statutory and Bermudan insurance regulations/requirements is a plus!
