Talbott & Arding is looking for a cheesemonger to join our team. For the right person, this is a great opportunity. You will work alongside experienced cheesemongers, meet the producers behind the cheese and charcuterie we carry and have the opportunity to visit farms and creameries firsthand. The world of artisan cheese is a small one, rooted in old traditions and alive with people still making new ones. It rewards the genuinely curious.
Previous experience in specialty food retail or cheese is preferred, but we will train the right person. What matters most is genuine interest in food, care for customers and colleagues and a willingness to learn.
Responsibilities
Maintain beautiful, well-stocked cheese and charcuterie displays. Learn and practice proper cutting, wrapping, storing and handling of cheese. Assist customers with selection and thoughtful pairing suggestions. Tell the stories of the producers we carry. Assemble cheese and charcuterie platters to house standards. Keep the department clean, organized and operating smoothly. Follow food safety and sanitation procedures. Participate in staff tastings and training to build product knowledge.
Qualifications
A genuine interest in food, specialty retail or hospitality. Strong interpersonal skills and comfort working a busy counter. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs regularly. Able to stand or walk for extended periods. Reliable transportation and consistent availability, including weekends and holiday periods. Ability to commute to Hudson, NY or willingness to relocate prior to start.
Compensation and Benefits
$18.00 to $20.00 per hour, commensurate with experience. Health insurance, paid time off, employee discount and paid breaks.
