What are the responsibilities and job description for the Shelter supervisor position at Talbot Interfaith Shelter?
Mission: Talbot Interfaith Shelter (TIS) is dedicated to ending the cycle of homelessness on Maryland’s Mid-Shore by providing Shelter, Stability, Support, and a path to Success for families and individuals in need.
Please note this position is guaranteed 16 hours, if candidate is willing to do a double shift--Sundays from 4pm - 11:59 pm and 12 am -8 am on Monday (overnight). More hours are regularly available when other supervisors need time off. Those substitute shifts could be 8 am - 4 pm on weekends; 4 pm - 12 am and 12 am - 8 am throughout the week. TIS is staffed 24/7/365.
The essential functions include but are not limited to …
Maintain a safe, supportive environment within the shelter.
Monitor facility to maintain safety of clients and shelter space.
Assist clients with shelter routines.
Support clients in following all shelter procedures.
Help clients work through conflict with others living in the shelter.
Keep shelter clean, restocked and up to TIS standards.
Communicate observations and interactions with clients to shelter Director of Operations and Executive Director.
Intervene in client crises under the direction of shelter management.
Greet visitors to the shelter warmly and professionally.
Participate in program and staff meetings and relevant trainings as required.
Complete incident reports as advised by Director.
Adhere to agency policy, procedures and professional code of ethics.
Complete all duties as assigned. Other duties as required.
Qualifications:
One- year experience working with homeless population preferred.
Ability to maintain clear personal and professional boundaries.
Ability to work effectively in constantly changing and sometimes demanding environment.
Experience working with a diverse population, with sensitivity to differences in culture, religion, sexual orientation, race, age, and physical and mental illness.
Ability to remain alert and on duty throughout shifts, even overnight.
Ability to respond responsibly in emergency and crisis situations.
Ability to communicate well both orally and in written form, and follow detailed instructions.
Computer skills including use of email and Microsoft Word.
