Yard and Warehouse

Description

OVERVIEW:

The Yard and Warehouse position responsibilities include safely and efficiently loading/unloading customers’ vehicles and incoming freight deliveries, handling lumber and building materials, picking orders, stocking and counting inventory, and assisting with deliveries as needed. Building material knowledge is a plus; basic math skills are required, and one must be able to complete forklift certification.

Requirements

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

• Safely drive and operate a forklift, including loading, unloading, and stocking building materials with a forklift.
• Load and unload building materials, which require bending, pushing, and pulling items that weigh up to 100 lbs.
• Learn to identify numerous building products and their locations.
• Gather, organize, and accurately build orders for delivery or pick up using pick tickets and a forklift.
• Learn all yard and warehouse-related processes and procedures. 
• Complete and maintain various paperwork.
• Load and unload customer vehicles by hand/forklift.
• Ride with truck drivers to assist in making deliveries as needed. 
• Report to work on time and be dressed according to company policy.
• Maintain a clean, safe work environment.
• Other tasks as assigned by management.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• The physical environment requires the employee to work inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• The ability to regularly bend, push, pull, twist, and reach above the head with lumber, plywood, siding, trim, gravel mix, shingles, windows, doors, millwork, and other building materials weighing up to 100 lbs.
• The ability to ride, mount, and dismount a forklift for several hours throughout the day.
• The ability to walk or stand for extended periods of time.
• The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces. 
• The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations and respond quickly to sounds.
• The ability to wear personal protective gear correctly for most of the day.
