Maintenance Technician – Stamping & Welding (Tier-1 Automotive Supplier)

Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician ensures that all production equipment, facility systems, and supporting infrastructure operate safely, efficiently, and with minimal downtime. This role requires a hands-on, adaptable individual capable of prioritizing tasks in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. The technician will perform troubleshooting, repairs, upgrades, and preventive maintenance on stamping presses, welding cells, automation equipment, and facility systems as directed by the Maintenance Manager.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance & Repair

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain electrical control systems including PLC logic (Keyence, Omron, Mitsubishi), relay logic, ladder logic, sensors, and safety circuits.
  • Troubleshoot and repair mechanical systems such as gearboxes, belts, bearings, bushings, drive components, and mechanical linkages.
  • Work with high-speed automated equipment; tune and synchronize machines for proper timing and cycle performance.
  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair pneumatic and hydraulic systems used in stamping presses, weld cells, and automation.
  • Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on all production machinery to minimize downtime and maximize operational reliability.
  • Support process improvements by researching, developing, and installing new components, parts, and equipment to enhance productivity and efficiency.

Automation, Robotics & Welding Support

  • Assist with troubleshooting robotic weld cells (spot welding, MIG/TIG as applicable), including end-of-arm tooling, sensors, and fixtures.
  • Perform basic robot program touch-ups or adjustments as permitted by the maintenance department.
  • Maintain weld equipment components including transformers, cables, guns, cooling systems, and weld quality monitoring devices.

Stamping Press Support

  • Conduct maintenance on mechanical and hydraulic stamping presses, feed lines, straighteners, and coil handling equipment.
  • Perform die-protection system checks, tonnage monitor checks, and safety light-curtain verifications.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow and enforce all safety standards, lockout/tagout procedures, and OSHA regulations.
  • Identify and report hazards, implement safe work practices, and maintain a clean and organized work area.

Documentation & Reporting

  • Accurately complete maintenance logs, PM checklists, work orders, and parts usage records.
  • Communicate equipment status, repair needs, and improvement recommendations to the Maintenance Manager and production leadership.

Working Relationships

  • Reports to: Maintenance Manager and/or Maintenance Team Leader
  • Internal Contacts: Plant Manager, Press Department Manager, Weld Department Manager, Engineering teams
  • External Contacts: OEM equipment suppliers, parts vendors, outside maintenance contractors

Qualifications & Requirements

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum 3 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment (automotive preferred).
  • Experience operating and maintaining general toolroom equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical blueprints.
  • Familiarity with metric measurement systems.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities.
  • Knowledge of PLC logic, industrial controls, and automation.
  • Understanding of hydraulics, pneumatics, and basic welding principles.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and work independently.
  • Strong communication and documentation skills.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.
  • Ability to stand 8–12 hours per shift.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, kneeling, and repetitive motion.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces or elevated areas as required.
