Summary of This Role
The Credit Analyst / Underwriter II is responsible for processing and evaluating merchant applications for both new and existing clients, ensuring timely, accurate, and high-quality decisions that support portfolio profitability and risk mitigation.
Processes and reviews client credit applications and makes recommendations in accordance with Company policies, legal requirements, and established procedures.
This role requires strong data and document analysis capabilities, applying a risk-based mindset to assess creditworthiness, identify potential fraud signals, and manage exposure. It also involves a structured problem-solving approach to evaluate complex scenarios while ensuring full compliance with internal policies, regulatory standards, and underwriting guidelines.

What Part Will You Play?
- Primarily focus in low to medium risk merchant applications.
- Understand and assess risks associated with the payment processing industry (fraud, credit, regulatory, legal, etc.), applying a risk-based approach.
- Apply company underwriting policies and guidelines consistently when evaluating new merchant applications.
- Make credit decisions on new merchant accounts within established approval limits, based on business and/or principal creditworthiness.
- Evaluate and escalate cases beyond individual approval authority, providing well-founded recommendations to Senior Underwriters, Leads, Managers, and Senior Management.
- Verify that all information provided in merchant applications and supporting documentation is accurate, complete, and meets required standards.
- Analyze relevant credit and financial information, including credit bureau reports, financial statements, third-party data sources, public records, and bank documentation.
- Interpret financial data to assess repayment capacity, risk exposure, and overall credit profile.
- Ensure all analyses and decisions comply with internal policies, legal requirements, and applicable regulations.
- Minimize company risk exposure by making sound and well-supported credit decisions.
- Manage and prioritize daily workload to meet productivity goals, SLAs, and performance indicators.
- Refer existing high-risk merchants to Credit Review with appropriate recommendations and actions.
- Provide a high level of customer service to merchants, sales teams, and internal stakeholders.
- Clearly communicate credit decisions, both verbally and in writing, ensuring clarity and proper justification.
- Handle priority cases and special projects assigned by Senior Underwriters, Leads, or Underwriting Managers.
- Maintain proper documentation and filing practices to ensure traceability and audit readiness.
- Support departmental operations by completing special assignments and additional duties as required.
- Demonstrate strong communication, listening, teamwork, and interpersonal skills.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience (Credit, Collections, Underwriting, Banking, Finance, Analyst roles, etc.).
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in finance, credit, risk, or related fields.
- Ability to read and interpret credit bureau reports.
- Strong understanding of financial statements, tax returns, and similar documentation.
- Previous experience as a credit analyst, underwriter, or risk analyst, managing application assessments and decision-making processes.
- Strong data analysis skills applied to decision-making.
- High level of attention to detail, particularly in document review and validation.
- Intermediate Excel skills for analysis, validation, and data management.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Risk-based thinking to support structured decision-making.
- Results-driven mindset with focus on KPIs and SLA compliance.
- Intermediate English proficiency preferred
