Duties
- Assist patients with activities of daily living such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility using equipment like Hoyer lifts and other assistive devices.
- Monitor and record vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and temperature, ensuring accurate medical documentation in EMR (Electronic Medical Records) or EHR (Electronic Health Records) systems.
- Support medication administration under supervision, ensuring proper handling and adherence to HIPAA regulations for patient privacy.
- Provide specialized care for individuals with dementia or Alzheimer’s disease, including memory care techniques and behavioral health support.
- Assist with catheter care, wound dressing changes, and aseptic techniques to prevent infection and promote healing.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams in acute care, ICU (Intensive Care Unit), emergency medicine, or post-acute settings to deliver comprehensive patient service.
- Engage in patient education on health management, physiology basics, and safety procedures tailored to each individual’s needs.
Skills
- Proven experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities or behavioral health challenges.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and basic life support (BLS).
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner or eClinicalWorks for accurate documentation.
- Experience in various healthcare environments including hospital medicine, long-term care facilities, hospice care, or outpatient clinics.
- Ability to perform phlebotomy procedures and DME (Durable Medical Equipment) management when required.
- Strong caregiving skills with a focus on geriatrics, pediatrics, or home & community care settings.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with patients, families, and healthcare teams while maintaining HIPAA compliance.
