Taj Indian Cuisine & Bar is looking for dependable, hardworking, and motivated Bussers to join our front-of-house team in Madison, Wisconsin.

As a Busser, you play an essential role in keeping our dining room clean, organized, and running efficiently. Your work helps our servers provide attentive service, allows guests to enjoy a comfortable dining environment, and ensures tables are ready for the next guests.

Your Responsibilities

Dining Room & Table Service

• Clear used plates, glasses, silverware, and other items from tables promptly and professionally.
• Clean, sanitize, and reset tables according to restaurant standards.
• Ensure tables are properly prepared with clean silverware, napkins, and other required items.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and welcoming dining room throughout service.
• Assist servers with water refills, clearing dishes, and other guest needs as assigned.
• Monitor table conditions and proactively remove unnecessary items when appropriate.
• Help maintain efficient table turnover without rushing guests.
• Keep service stations stocked with clean glassware, silverware, napkins, and supplies.
• Assist with opening, closing, and assigned side-work responsibilities.

Restaurant Support & Teamwork

• Communicate with servers and hosts when tables are cleaned and ready for seating.
• Support servers, food runners, hosts, and other team members during busy periods.
• Assist with carrying dishes, restocking supplies, and maintaining service areas.
• Transport used dishes and glassware safely to designated dishwashing areas.
• Help maintain clean and organized service stations and work areas.
• Assist with restaurant setup and breakdown for assigned shifts.
• Support lunch buffet operations, including maintaining clean dining and buffet-adjacent areas, when assigned.
• Follow established food safety, sanitation, and cleaning procedures.
• Notify management of spills, safety hazards, damaged equipment, or guest concerns.
• Complete assigned responsibilities efficiently and without repeated reminders.

Guest Experience

• Maintain a friendly, courteous, and professional attitude toward guests.
• Respond politely to guest requests and communicate them to the appropriate team member.
• Work discreetly and respectfully around guests.
• Help ensure the dining room remains clean, comfortable, and presentable.
• Contribute to an exceptional experience through attention to detail and teamwork.

Qualifications

• Previous restaurant, bussing, or hospitality experience preferred but not required.
• Dependable attendance and punctuality.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced restaurant.
• Willingness to follow instructions and restaurant procedures.
• Ability to communicate respectfully with coworkers and guests.
• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and carry dishes and supplies throughout assigned shifts.
• Ability to safely perform the physical responsibilities of the position, with reasonable accommodation where applicable.
• Availability for assigned lunch, dinner, evening, weekend, and holiday shifts.
• Willingness to assist other front-of-house positions as needed.

We provide in-person training on our service standards, cleaning procedures, restaurant operations, and guest expectations.

Compensation & Tips

• Hourly base pay.
• Additional tip earnings may be available through Taj's established support-staff tip-out policy.
• Taj does not use a traditional restaurant-wide tip pool.
• Eligible bussers may receive tip-outs from servers according to the restaurant's established policy.
• Tip amounts, where applicable, vary based on the restaurant's distribution procedures and business activity.
• Specific compensation and tip-out arrangements will be explained during hiring.
• All wages and gratuities are handled in accordance with applicable laws.
