What are the responsibilities and job description for the Bilingual (Spanish) Associate Attorney - Criminal Defense position at Taino Law Group?
Bilingual (Spanish/English) attorney wanted. ¿Hablas español? Keep reading.
Taino Law is a growing Tampa firm serving the Spanish-speaking community across the Tampa Bay area. We're hiring an associate attorney whose main focus will be criminal defense. Your Spanish is the most important skill you bring: nearly every client you'll represent speaks Spanish first, and they need a lawyer who can explain their case, their options, and what comes next in their own language.
You won't be thrown in alone. You'll work directly with the firm's founding attorney, who has practiced criminal defense in Florida and Puerto Rico for over a decade, and you'll build your courtroom skills with real support behind you.
What You'll Do
- Represent clients in criminal matters, primarily in courts across the Tampa Bay area
- Handle court appearances such as arraignments, pretrial conferences, and hearings
- Meet with clients and their families in Spanish to explain charges, options, and next steps
- Review discovery, evaluate defenses, and negotiate with prosecutors
- Draft motions and prepare for hearings, with guidance and review
- Learn to spot the immigration consequences of criminal cases, a key skill for our clients
- Help with our pre-litigation personal injury practice as needed (settlement negotiations with insurance companies, no litigation)
What We're Looking For
- Fluent in Spanish and English, spoken and written (required)
- J.D. and active Florida Bar membership in good standing (required)
- 0–3 years of experience. Newly admitted attorneys and attorneys with a year or two of practice are encouraged to apply.
- Criminal law interest required. Experience from a public defender's office, state attorney's office, clinic, or internship is a plus, but not required.
- Organized, client-focused, and eager to grow in the courtroom
Why Join Us
- Base salary of $75,000 – $100,000, depending on experience
- Performance-based bonus
- Health insurance
- Paid time off
- Florida Bar dues and CLE costs paid by the firm
- Hands-on mentorship and real courtroom experience early in your career
- A supportive, bilingual team
Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, in person at our office at 2511 W Columbus Dr, Tampa, FL 33607.
To apply: Submit your resume and a short cover letter. Cover letters in Spanish are welcome.
