JOB TITLE: Speech-Language Pathology Assistant
JOB DESCRIPTION NARRATIVE:
Assist speech-language pathologists in the treatment of speech, language, voice, and fluency disorders. Implement speech and language programs or activities as planned and directed by speech-language pathologists. Monitor the use of alternative communication devices and systems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: An Associate's degree in Speech-Language Pathology Assisting or a related field is typically required. Completion of a Speech-Language Pathology Assistant certification program is also necessary.
Experience: Previous experience in a speech-language therapy setting is often preferred, along with familiarity with speech therapy tools and software.
Skills: Strong organizational and documentation skills, as well as effective communication abilities, are essential. Bilingual skills can be an asset in diverse client populations.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assist in Therapy Implementation: SLPAs help licensed Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) in executing therapy plans for clients with speech and language disorders. This includes conducting individual or group therapy sessions under supervision.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of client performance and progress during therapy sessions, ensuring that all documentation is organized and up-to-date.
- Preparation of Materials: Prepare therapy materials and equipment for sessions, ensuring that all necessary tools are available for effective treatment.
- Client Interaction: Provide feedback to clients and their families regarding progress and strategies to improve communication skills.
- Collaboration: Work collaboratively with educational professionals to support client needs and treatment goals.
