Position Overview
The Taft Museum of Art, located in downtown Cincinnati, is seeking a dedicated and reliable Security Associate to join our team on 2nd shift (3:00 pm to 11:00 pm on Wednesday-Thursday). This part-time position offers a competitive hourly rate and the opportunity to contribute to the safety and stewardship of one of the nation’s finest small art museums.
Reporting to the Manager of Security, the Security Associate helps ensure a safe, secure, and welcoming environment for all guests, staff, board members, and volunteers at the Taft Museum of Art. This role monitors museum spaces, identifies and reports safety or security concerns, and supports the positive, meaningful experience of everyone who visits the museum.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor museum galleries and public/non-public areas to ensure the safety of patrons, staff, and artwork.
- Patrol museum collections, buildings, equipment, and grounds to prevent theft, vandalism, hazards, and other security concerns.
- Rotate through assigned security posts, including Galleries, Control Room, and Reception Desk.
- Report and document any changes or physical interactions involving artwork, maintaining accurate logs.
- Monitor camera, alarm, and related electronic security systems.
- Control and monitor access to secured areas, including key management, contractor/vendor check-in at the service entrance, and bag checks upon exit.
- Respond to emergency and non-emergency situations and support the coordination of timely and effective resolutions.
- Oversee loading dock activity, including deliveries and shipments, and assist with art shipments as assigned.
- Provide security coverage during after-hours museum events.
- Perform opening and closing procedures for the museum.
- Enforce all museum policies throughout public and restricted areas.
- Maintain Lost & Found documentation.
- Prepare written reports on incidents, accidents, thefts, or other security-related events; ensure appropriate documentation and submit reports to the Manager of Security.
- Respond to calls from the Manager of Security or Associate Director of Security during unusual or emergent situations.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Report to the museum for after-hours emergencies when required.
- Serve as Safety Officer (Fire Watch) as needed.

Qualifications:
REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- High School Diploma, GED, or National Career Readiness Certificate required.
- Prior experience in museum, zoo, aquarium, library, or cultural property security preferred.
- CPR/First Aid/AED certification preferred, or willingness to obtain certification.
- Familiarity with Microsoft 365 products, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
- Experience with electronic security equipment such as CCTV, access control systems, and related security technologies preferred.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to move briskly throughout the building; climb ladders and stairs; operate a lift; respond quickly to alarms and emergencies; and assist where needed. Ability to sit, stand, and patrol for extended periods; bend, stoop, or work with hands above shoulder height; lift up to 50 pounds; and work in both indoor and outdoor environments.
- Ability to speak and understand English.
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver’s license required.
