Job description:

The Network Administrator Apprentice will generally be assigned mid level network administration tasks, consistent with their training and time in service, and they must consistently display growth in their skillset. They will be required to attain a secret security clearance and any assigned certifications. The NAA must also show the ability to successfully meet the minimum requirements of a (future) Network Administrator.

The Network Administrator is generally responsible for the day-to-day management of the network infrastructure and appliances and shall: support, monitor, test, and troubleshoot hardware and software problems pertaining to the network environment (NE); perform installation and configuration support; optimize and test network servers, hubs, routers, and switches to ensure compliance; research, evaluate, and provide feedback on problematic information assurance trends; develop and implement access control lists on routers, firewalls, and other network devices; develop and implement file-based workflows; write and maintain scripts for the network environment; demonstrate proficiency in applying security requirements to an operating system for a network or computing environment; adhere to information security laws and regulations to support functional operations, and; implement response actions in reaction to security incidents.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relative Information Technology (IT) field or at least 5 years of recent experience maintaining an advanced network and computing environment.
  • At minimum, must obtain a CompTIA Security (or equivalent IAT level II certification) within 6 months of hire.
  • At minimum, must obtain network and/or computing environment certifications as assigned to meet IAT level II requirements.
  • Shall be skilled in computer systems, networks, network shares, routers and switches, FTP and file base workflows, and network security, including cloud and virtual environments, to include: Windows Servers 2012 and 2016; Windows 10; Active Directory; DNS; Group Policy; and, Software Center Configuration Manager (SCCM).
  • Must have basic knowledge of signal flow, use, and maintenance of digital television and radio equipment in all categories, including video processing, switching, and storage systems.
  • Must have exceptional communication, multitasking, and motivational skills.

Function:

  • Evaluate, maintain, configure, and troubleshoot complex network infrastructure components to ensure dependability and speed.
  • Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve PCs, Servers, and other computer-related equipment problems to ensure functional operation. Provides instruction to others on the operation of said equipment.
  • Create “best practice” operational procedures for Periodic Maintenance and systems back-ups, as well as “out-of-the-box” configurations.
  • Ensure compliance with DoD Information Assurance requirements, safeguard access to the Active Directory, and maintain an image server, a backup of configuration files, and a backup of each system according to the level of criticality.
  • Work closely with the Engineers on new project installations that require network and IT-related support.
  • Work closely with Engineers on developing new workflows, capable of making sound recommendations to improve operations.
  • Research new technology to ensure the workflows and practices in place are the most current.
  • Provide end user support on Avid and Adobe editing suites and other related software.
  • Must work well under pressure, meeting multiple and sometimes competing deadlines.

General:

  • This position requires a DCSA Tier 3 (Secret-level) background check with fingerprints.
  • This position is subject to random drug testing.
  • All incumbents will be subject to a 180-day training and performance evaluation period.
  • Base Pay rate will be in accordance with the latest Department of Labor Wage Determination on the contract.
  • Shift assignments and days off will be subject to operational necessity.
