Tacoma Country & Golf Club is as proud of our past as we are excited about our future. Dating to 1894, Tacoma Country & Golf Club has been occupying this beautiful property on the shores of American Lake for well over a century. TCGC is the oldest established Golf Club West of the Mississippi.
Golf is central to the member experience at Tacoma Country & Golf Club. We feature an 18-hole championship golf course that stretches beyond 6,900-yards from the back tees. Accomplished players will love the test they find on our links, while players of all skill levels will find a playable course that is enjoyable round after round.
Tacoma Country & Golf Club offers a competition sized swimming pool set on the shores of American Lake complete with locker rooms, a Beach House with kitchen and bar, and beach and lake access with a dock and slide. The pool, beach house, and lake operate for members and their guests from Memorial Day to Labor Day and through September, weather, and lifeguard availability, permitting.
Position Summary
The Head Lifeguard provides lead supervision for Lifeguards, monitors activities at pool, and functions as a Lifeguard. Participates in the selection and assigning of Lifeguard duties. Give instructions in pool operating procedures, rules, safety practices, maintenance, and related matters. Conducts safety checks of facility and coordinates maintenance and repairs, including water chemistry. Organize, leads, and assists with events at the pool in partnership with the Clubhouse Manager. Acts as Person-in-Charge when Aquatics Manager is not present. This position is an ambassador for The Club and Aquatics Department and will present themselves in such manner as well as holding staff to the same standard.
Position Core Duties
- Supervises the Lifeguards. Assists in planning, implementing and supervising all aquatic activities and opportunities for members and guests.
- Assists with hiring, training, and supervising performance of aquatics staff.
- Provide necessary orientation and training for aquatics staff.
- Establishes systems and methods for training, motivating, and supervising the team and creates a system of communication.
- Help plan and assist in-service trainings.
- Evaluate programs’ activities and identify areas for opportunities and improvements.
- Supervise pool registration desk to ensure the correct charges for guests.
- Organize and delegate day-to-day operations.
- Coordinate with Aquatic Manager on who will attend weekly Leadership meetings to discuss aquatic activities. (One of the following required each week: Aquatic Manager, Head Lifeguard, Swim Team Coach/Lead Instructor.)
- Enforce Club rules of safety and conduct.
- Maintain all Lifeguard Certification records and ensure Human Resources has updated copies of each.
- Conduct daily safety training with lifeguards at the beginning of each shift and ensures daily safety opening and closing checklists are fully completed.
- Represent the Club in activities as required.
- Alert General Manager/Aquatic Manager to any problems or issues with Members and their guests or if experiencing technical difficulties.
- Conducts pool opening and closing tasks at the beginning and end of season.
- Manages pool area, lake area, and locker rooms, and bathrooms for cleanliness.
- Maintains presence during special pool events.
- Emcee special events
- Lead morning meetings/closing meets as necessary
- Performs other tasks assigned by Aquatic Manager
Candidate Qualifications & Requirements
- Working knowledge of aquatics recreation and operation systems
- Strong management skills including leadership and supervisory skills, problem analysis and decision-making, planning and organizing, management control, adaptability/flexibility and time management.
- Strong oral communication and interpersonal skills for working with members, employees, program participants, and guests of members.
- Strong written communication and computer skills.
- Ability to demonstrate strong work ethic, leadership and customer service skills.
- Maintain consistent attendance during aquatics hours of operations; per schedule by Aquatics Manager
- Minimum of 2 years of lifeguard experience
- Current Lifeguarding Certification from the American Red Cross
- Ability to respond to emergency situations.
- Ability to perform duties involving physical labor, such as bending, kneeling, standing, reaching, climbing, stooping, squatting, pushing, and twisting.
- Ability to perform strenuous activity with the physical ability to perform job
- Able to lift 50 pounds.
- Ability to swim 200 yards in open water
- Employment contingent upon clearing a criminal background check.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting pay is $20.50-22/hour DOE
