Duties
- Assist orthodontists during patient procedures, including placement and adjustment of braces, retainers, and other orthodontic appliances using four-handed dentistry techniques.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing dental instruments, setting up necessary equipment such as 3D scanners and dental x-ray machines, and ensuring all tools meet infection prevention management standards.
- Capture high-quality dental images and x-rays while adhering to HIPAA regulations and ensuring patient safety through proper use of dental equipment and aseptic techniques.
- Manage patient records efficiently using electronic medical records (EMR systems) like Dentrix or Eaglesoft, including documenting vital signs, medical history, and treatment details accurately.
- Educate patients on orthodontic care instructions, oral hygiene practices, and post-treatment procedures to promote optimal outcomes.
- Coordinate appointment scheduling and patient management using specialized software such as Epic or other patient management systems to optimize clinic flow.
- Maintain clinical confidentiality policies while handling sensitive medical documentation and ensuring compliance with healthcare infection control protocols.
Experience
- Proven experience working as a dental assistant in a clinical setting, preferably with orthodontic or pediatric dentistry backgrounds.
- Strong knowledge of dental terminology, dental assisting procedures, and the use of dental instruments and equipment.
- Familiarity with dental sterilization procedures, infection prevention management, and aseptic techniques essential for maintaining a safe clinical environment.
- Competence in operating digital imaging devices including X-ray units and 3D scanners for accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
- Experience with EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft; familiarity with Epic or similar patient management software is a plus.
- Ability to communicate effectively with patients of all ages, including pediatric populations, demonstrating patience and professionalism.
- Knowledge of general dentistry procedures such as oral surgery, endodontics, prosthodontics, and pediatric dentistry enhances your ability to support comprehensive patient care.
