What are the responsibilities and job description for the Product Mechanical Engineer position at Tacit?
We are looking for a Product Mechanical Engineer to help bring our next-generation wearable hardware from concept to mass production. You will work closely with electrical, industrial design, and manufacturing teams to develop robust, ergonomic, and high-quality products.
We are an early-stage, stealth tech startup based in San Francisco, developing innovative hardware that rethinks human-computer interaction. While we can’t reveal too much just yet, our team is tackling cutting-edge engineering challenges to bring revolutionary products to life.
Responsibilities
• Support mechanical design and integration of complex electro-mechanical assemblies.
• Develop 3D CAD models, mechanical layouts, and assemblies in SolidWorks.
• Drive DFM, tolerance analysis, and reliability validation.
• Collaborate with EE and ID teams to define mechanical constraints, MCOs, and packaging approaches.
• Manage prototype builds and coordinate with ODMs and contract manufacturers during development and production.
• Participate in failure analysis, reliability testing, and design revisions.
Requirements
• 5 years of experience in mechanical design for consumer electronics, ideally including headphone or wearable devices.
• Hands-on experience taking at least one product from concept through mass production.
• Proficient in SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software.
• Familiar with injection molding, machining, adhesives, and assembly design.
• Understanding of DFM, tolerance stack-up, and reliability fundamentals.
• Strong communication and documentation skills for cross-functional collaboration.
• Comfortable in a fast-paced, iterative startup environment.
Preferred
• Prior experience developing over-ear headphones.
• Experience with soft goods, such as ear cushions or headband materials.
• Familiarity with mechanical or thermal simulation (FEA).
• Exposure to ODM/CM collaboration and overseas manufacturing.
• Knowledge of materials selection and ergonomics for wearable products.
• Background in acoustic or thermal design integration.

• Salary range: $120,000 - $180,000 plus equity.
