The New Accounts Specialist delivers a high-quality service experience to both existing and prospective customers throughout the deposit account opening process. This role is responsible for opening and servicing a variety of consumer and business deposit products, including checking, savings, money market accounts, certificates of deposit (CDs), and individual retirement accounts (IRAs).
The New Accounts Specialist communicates professionally with customers to gather required information, explain products and services, and address questions or concerns. The ideal candidate is detail‑oriented, accurate, and customer‑focused, with the ability to analyze information, mitigate risk, and provide solutions aligned with customer needs and bank policies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Represent the bank in a professional manner, including in‑person, by phone, email, and written correspondence
- Respond promptly and courteously to emails, voicemail messages, and other communications
- Open and service consumer, business, and retirement deposit accounts
- Maintain and service certificates of deposit and individual retirement accounts
- Cross‑sell the bank’s financial products and services based on customer needs
- Analyze account applications and risk responses to identify and mitigate potential fraud
- Initiate wire transfers and cashier’s checks
- Add and maintain joint signers on business and personal accounts
- Update, store, and maintain business resolutions, beneficial ownership information, and legal documentation
- Make outbound calls and handle incoming calls from applicants and customers
- Provide required disclosures, account documentation, and correspondence
- Ensure all documentation is stored appropriately for audits and third‑party reviews
- Process new account payments and ensure proper funding of accounts
- Answer basic inquiries related to interest rates, fees, and account histories in compliance with regulatory and privacy requirements
- Perform simple financial calculations accurately
- Complete operational and administrative tasks in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Maintain a thorough understanding of bank products, policies, procedures, and applicable regulations
- Perform other duties as assigned
Education and Experience Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required
- One year of banking or similar experience
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Requirements:
- Strong customer service orientation
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Analytical and accurate in completing work
- Self‑motivated and goal‑oriented
- Proficient computer skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior banking experience
- Experience with CDs and IRAs, including familiarity with applicable terms and regulations
