Position Overview
The Senior Systems Engineer is responsible for the design, implementation, and management of enterprise infrastructure systems with a focus on virtualization, storage, and physical datacenter operations. This role requires deep expertise in VMware technologies, hands-on experience maintaining physical servers and supporting data center environments, and strong scripting skills to automate processes and improve efficiency.

Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain enterprise virtualization environments using VMware vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi.
- Manage and maintain physical datacenter assets including rack-and-stack, cabling, hardware lifecycle management, and environmental monitoring.
- Develop and maintain automation scripts (PowerShell, Python, or similar) for provisioning, configuration management, and monitoring.
- Monitor system performance, capacity, and availability; proactively identify and remediate potential issues.
- Collaborate with network, storage, and security teams to ensure cohesive infrastructure design and integration.
- Support disaster recovery and business continuity strategies, including replication and backup validation.
- Document configurations, standards, and operational procedures; maintain an accurate inventory of systems and components.
- Lead or participate in infrastructure upgrade and migration projects.
- Provide Tier 3 support for complex system issues and mentor junior engineers.
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 7 years of progressive systems engineering experience in enterprise environments.
- 5 years of experience managing VMware environments (vSphere, vCenter, ESXi).
- Strong hands-on experience with physical datacenter operations (rack/stack, cabling, hardware diagnostics).
- Proficiency in scripting and automation (PowerShell, Python, Bash, etc.).
- VMware vSphere, vCenter, ESXi, and vSAN.
- Windows and/or Linux server administration.
- Familiarity with SAN/NAS storage, backup systems, and monitoring tools.
- Networking fundamentals (VLANs, routing, IP addressing).
- Understanding of configuration management or infrastructure-as-code principles (e.g., Ansible, Terraform) is a plus.
- Experience with hybrid or cloud-integrated infrastructure (Azure, AWS, or GCP) is preferred.
- Must be locally located and comfortable working a 3 days in office hybrid model and 2 days remote
- VMware Certified Professional (VCP) or higher.
- Experience with Dell, HPE, or Cisco UCS server hardware.
- Knowledge of datacenter power and cooling best practices.
- Experience implementing security hardening and compliance controls.
- Strong documentation, communication, and cross-team collaboration skills.
- Analytical and detail-oriented problem solver.
- Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
- Strong sense of ownership and accountability for uptime and system reliability.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities in fast-paced environments.
- Requires occasional on-site presence in data center environments (lifting up to 50 lbs).
- May require after-hours work during maintenance windows or critical incidents.
