Equipment Operator
Position Information
Status: Seasonal Full-Time, Subject to Seasonal Layoff
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Reports To: Operations Manager / Crew Foreman
$500 sign on bonus to be paid to experienced equipment operators only. To be paid $250 after 30 and $250 after 60 days of full time employment.
Position Summary
T&K Asphalt Services, Inc. is seeking a skilled and dependable Equipment Operator to support asphalt, maintenance, construction, and snow operations throughout the year. This position is responsible for safely operating a variety of equipment, including skid steers, excavators, snow plows, and specialized attachments, while assisting with equipment transportation, preventative maintenance, and daily operational activities. The ideal candidate will possess strong equipment operating skills, a commitment to safety, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced outdoor environment under varying weather conditions.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Safely operate skid steers, excavators, snow plows, and other assigned equipment.
- Operate specialized attachments, including but not limited to road saws, sweepers, trenchers, trimmers, and similar equipment.
- Perform daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned equipment.
- Monitor and maintain proper fluid levels, including fuel, hydraulic fluids, oil, coolant, and other required maintenance items.
- Identify equipment deficiencies and communicate maintenance concerns promptly to the Shop Foreman or Maintenance Department.
- Assist with preventative maintenance activities and routine equipment upkeep.
- Transport crews, materials, equipment, and supplies to and from job sites as assigned.
- Follow work assignments, schedules, and instructions provided by supervisors and foremen.
- Maintain a clean and organized work area and equipment.
- Comply with all company safety policies, procedures, and applicable regulations.
- Participate in winter snow operations, including plowing, equipment operation, and emergency response activities.
- Assist with other labor, maintenance, or operational duties as assigned.
- Work overtime, weekends, holidays, and extended hours as business needs require.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Valid Massachusetts Class D Driver's License required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a valid DOT Medical Card.
- OSHA training preferred.
- Massachusetts and Rhode Island Hoisting Licenses preferred.
- Demonstrated experience operating skid steers with hand controls.
- Ability to safely operate various equipment attachments and accessories.
- Knowledge of basic equipment maintenance and inspection procedures.
- Ability to recognize and report equipment malfunctions and safety concerns.
- Strong commitment to workplace safety and compliance with company policies.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
- Reliable attendance and willingness to work flexible schedules as needed.
Working Conditions / Physical Demands
- Work is performed primarily outdoors in a construction and maintenance environment.
- Regular exposure to moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment, construction vehicles, and active job sites.
- Frequent exposure to adverse weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, snow, humidity, and wind.
- May work around hazardous materials, fuels, oils, lubricants, and construction-related products.
- Frequent standing, walking, climbing, kneeling, bending, stooping, reaching, and equipment operation throughout the workday.
- Must be able to lift, carry, push, pull, and maneuver materials, tools, and equipment weighing up to 80 pounds.
- Must be able to stand and perform physical work for extended periods.
- Exposure to loud noise levels and vibration associated with construction equipment.
- Participation in snow operations may require overnight shifts, extended hours, weekends, holidays, and emergency response work during inclement weather.
Employment Conditions
- This is a seasonal full-time position and is subject to seasonal layoff periods based on workload, weather conditions, and business needs.
- Overtime, weekend work, holiday work, and flexible scheduling may be required.
- Participation in winter snow operations is required.
- Employment is contingent upon maintaining a valid driver's license, DOT Medical Card, and any required certifications or licenses.
