Duties
- Assist the dentist during a variety of treatment procedures including restorative, endodontic, prosthodontic, and pediatric dentistry cases.
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments, setting up dental trays, and ensuring all necessary supplies are ready for patient care.
- Take and develop dental radiographs (X-ray images), ensuring proper technique and patient safety in accordance with infection control protocols.
- Manage patient records using Electronic Medical Records (EMR) systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Conduct vital signs assessments and medical imaging as needed to support comprehensive patient evaluations.
- Maintain aseptic technique throughout all procedures to prevent infection and ensure a sterile environment.
- Provide excellent dental reception services by greeting patients, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance information, and managing medical documentation efficiently.
- Support four-handed dentistry practices by working seamlessly alongside the dentist to optimize workflow and patient comfort.
- Educate patients on oral health practices, post-treatment care instructions, and answer questions related to dental terminology or procedures.
- Assist with the use of advanced technology such as 3D scanners for accurate diagnostics and treatment planning.
- Ensure proper infection control procedures are followed at all times, including sterilization of instruments and proper disposal of biohazard materials.
- Keep detailed records of medical history, dental charts, and coding information for accurate billing and compliance purposes.
Requirements
- Proven experience as a Dental Assistant in a busy dental clinic setting with knowledge of general dentistry procedures.
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Dentrix or Eaglesoft; familiarity with Epic is a plus.
- Strong understanding of HIPAA regulations related to patient privacy and medical documentation standards.
- Experience with pediatric dentistry is highly desirable; knowledge of pediatric-specific protocols is preferred.
- Ability to operate dental X-ray equipment safely while adhering to radiation safety standards.
- Knowledge of dental terminology, anatomy, infection control practices, aseptic techniques, and medical terminology relevant to dentistry.
- Familiarity with advanced dental technology including 3D scanners and digital imaging tools.
- Excellent communication skills to effectively interact with patients of all ages and backgrounds.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Certification in CPR or Basic Life Support (BLS) is preferred but not mandatory; willingness to obtain certification if not already held. Pay: $14.00 - $19.00 per hour
