Role Description

We are seeking a full-time Permit Technician to support the review, processing, and issuance of construction and occupancy permits for public space and utility projects. This position plays a key role in coordinating with engineers, contractors, and reviewers to ensure that permit applications meet regulatory, safety, and design standards.

The Permit Technician will work with online permitting platforms to maintain permit records, support field coordination, and ensure timely processing of applications. A hybrid work option is available, based in Washington, DC.

Key Responsibilities

• Review and process permit applications for construction and occupancy work in the public right-of-way.
• Verify completeness and accuracy of submittals, drawings, and traffic control plans (TCPs).
• Communicate with contractors and reviewers to resolve deficiencies and ensure compliance with regulations.
• Maintain permit status records in digital permitting systems and SharePoint databases.
• Support reporting and tracking of permit volumes, turnaround times, and performance metrics.
• Ensure permit conditions reflect safety standards, right-of-way requirements, and applicable regulations.
• Assist in coordinating with field inspectors and traffic control reviewers.
• Participate in QA/QC and training sessions to maintain consistency and accuracy in permit reviews.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• Minimum of 2 years of experience in permit processing, construction administration, or public space management.
• Familiarity with public space or utility permitting standards and traffic control safety regulations.
• Experience using digital permitting platforms or databases.
• Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
• Excellent communication and coordination abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Teams, SharePoint).

Preferred Experience

• Experience supporting public-sector infrastructure projects in urban environments.
• Familiarity with Power BI and data reporting tools.
• Experience working within multi-agency or consultant team environments.
