Program: Beyond the Bell
Sites: Morgan, McMahon, Donahue, or substitute coverage across Beyond the Bell sites
Schedule: Monday-Thursday, approximately 2 hours per program day aligned to site operating hours; schedule may vary based on student health needs and coverage
Compensation: $30.00 LPN -$45.00 RN per hour as reflected in the current program budget, subject to final HR/Finance approval
Reports to: Beyond the Bell Site Supervisor and appropriate district nursing leadership/designee
Position Summary: Provide nursing coverage and health/safety support so students can participate safely in Beyond the Bell programming.
Essential Responsibilities
- Review available student health information and required health plans for assigned participants before providing services.
- Administer medications and provide nursing care in accordance with valid orders, district policy, nursing standards, and applicable law.
- Respond to illness, injury, allergic reaction, seizure, diabetes care, or other student health needs within the nurse’s scope of practice.
- Maintain accurate nursing documentation and protect student health information.
- Communicate urgent health concerns to families, site leadership, emergency services, and district nursing leadership as appropriate.
- Support emergency preparedness and ensure required health supplies and emergency medications are accessible.
- Provide staff guidance regarding student health precautions and emergency response within appropriate nursing scope.
- Coordinate with substitute nurses and site staff to support continuity of care.
- Follow district medication, emergency, infection-control, and student-dismissal procedures.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current, unrestricted Massachusetts nursing license appropriate to the assignment.
- Current CPR certification and any other credentials required by district policy.
- Experience providing nursing care to children or adolescents.
- Ability to respond independently and appropriately to urgent health situations.
- Ability to complete all district background checks and required trainings.
Preferred Qualifications
- School nursing or pediatric nursing experience.
- Current HPS nurse or familiarity with district health procedures and student health plans.
